How did he mishandle him. Literally all they did was speak over the phone. The guy didnt even give the org a chance. Nothing Briere could have do could have botched the relationship that badly. Kid has a ego problem and got his feelings hurt because Briere agreed with Cutter it was best he go back to college and didnt beg him to join the Flyers immediately - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Of course Gauthier gave them a chance. Briere mishandled him by refusing to sign him to a contract and burning the first year of his ELC when Gauthier's NCAA season was done in the Spring of 23. Gauthier didn't want to go back to college for the 23/24 season. He wanted to play in the NHL

I'm not sure why you are assuming I am saying Luchanko and Bonk are making the team real soon...they are no different than most 1st rounders, probably D+3-5 years away from being a regular and making any type of impact. Which is why it's important for the Flyers to draft another impact player that is a D+0-1.
Most 1st rounders should be NHL roster players in some capacity. I don't know the exact numbers, but it's probably 100+ games from a 1st rounder is maybe 75-80%. - Glak18
I am not. just saying they are years away from real contributions. so add those years to the already years of futility and still a long way to go. |

It wasn't a miss because they drafted the wrong players. It's a miss due to how the Flyers handled the situation. Left us with Drysdale who isn't looking promising.

I have no idea about any of the players in the upcoming draft. Certainly a 1C is a huge need but so is a 1D. I'm still mad that they passed on Buium. - MJL
The centers I have my eyes on that are highly ranked this early are Hagens, Frondell, Misa, Ryabkin (might possibly come over to NA soon).
Right now the top D are probably Schaefer and Hensler, who I don't see as sure fire top pairing D men (more along the lines of a Sanheim type...size, skating).
If the Flyers do get ahold of a Hagens or Frondell than I agree the pick of Luchanko over Buium stings even more.

That's why I specifically referred to them as depth picks.

speaking of which they should see what the market is for him. He imo has a lot of value I bet. Many teams would love to have him in the top 4. |

If Zavagrin is the real deal, they aren’t competing for anything until he comes over and gets established. His contract runs for another two years and then a couple years to getting adjusted to the NHL so that’s 5 years from now. So the next presidential election at the earliest. |

you are yes and I agree.
my guess is they get so hyped up they will then fail or get traded. if the jett puts up 100 points imagine we found our #1 center speak that will come out.
you see how bad they hype up Huter!!!!! |

He didn't sign the kid after his freshman year -- that is what he did wrong |

He has a full no movement clause for the next 3 years and then a modified no trade. The Flyers just signed his best buddy to a 8 year contract that hasn’t started yet. He isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. |

I like Frondell, but I wonder with the injury history, do the Flyers shy away. Last first round pick that had an injury history was Nolan Patrick. Flyers chose Bill Gauthier over Jiricek. Granted, different GMs. Briere's 1st rd. picks had really no injury history before being drafted. |

Drysdale was a miss the moment they made the trade, clearly the fans and media billed it like they were getting Makar and the fact is they didn't and there isn't going to be another Makar for a long time.
Sadly Drysdale is no different than any defenseman they could draft in the next couple years...long development and hope they reach potential. He's 22...22 and played 156 NHL games and only 33 games for the Flyers. Is he going to be a superstar, probably not, but could he progress much like Sanheim did...no doubt, but Flyer fans wanted a star from the get go and he will always be a disappointment because of that.
Yet we have Frost who is ALREADY 25 and he gets "oh he's young give him a chance" treatment.

You want to see glimpses from a player. Not seeing it with Drysdale. Not choice to remain patient. As far as Frost is concerned. He's at the point where if he doesn't make a jump this season, he likely won't

I don't remember if Frondell had a knee injury or shoulder, but he's back playing and not looking out of place. If he continues to go down I would be concerned, but right now I'm not. Good size, amazing puck protection...would be an amazing fit for Michkov.

Watching the current center play on the team right now and I am much more ok with Luchanko pick over Buium. They probably should have kept him on the team. |

I agree Drysdale has not been impressive at all as a Flyer, but you have to admit that's tough to do when the team stinks this bad.
Michkov has his glimpses on this terrible team, but we can agree he's in a totally different category of player.

I'm not going into the conspiracies, but I'm pretty sure no matter what the Flyers were not taking Buium for whatever reason. I think they wanted big D Son, which is the D man I wanted.

I don't understand both of those comments. How does the current center play come into it when passing over a player with 1D potential for a center with 2/3C potential? Luchanko was clearly not ready to play in the NHL. Shouldn't have been on the team in the first place.

Does he strike you a guy desperately wanting a championship or someone who wants to stay close to friends? |

no idea. then he is a fn loser. though he learned from the best.
I wonder what team has the most NMC/NTC? probably a site out there that has it would love to see it and where the flyers rank. |
