It wasn't a miss because they drafted the wrong players. It's a miss due to how the Flyers handled the situation. Left us with Drysdale who isn't looking promising. - MJL
Agreed... but in the purest sense of what OP was saying I don't think Cutter really qualifies.
We can certainly blame DB (and reportedly Torts) for targeting Drysdale. |

Brink was off to a solid start and he made one mistake and he hasn't played since. - MJL
I despise how he's been handled. He should play every game and with consistent linemates. |

Drysdale was a miss the moment they made the trade, clearly the fans and media billed it like they were getting Makar and the fact is they didn't and there isn't going to be another Makar for a long time.
Sadly Drysdale is no different than any defenseman they could draft in the next couple years...long development and hope they reach potential. He's 22...22 and played 156 NHL games and only 33 games for the Flyers. Is he going to be a superstar, probably not, but could he progress much like Sanheim did...no doubt, but Flyer fans wanted a star from the get go and he will always be a disappointment because of that.
Yet we have Frost who is ALREADY 25 and he gets "oh he's young give him a chance" treatment. - Glak18
Drysdale has been outscored 31-8 at 5on5 as a Flyer. Sanheim and Frost never ever had a stretch that bad, at any age.
When Sanheim was 22 he led the Flyers defense in ES scoring as dead even in GF-GA at 5on5 while being 2nd in minutes only to Provorov (who was outscored 81 to 67).

Drysdale should retire now
How much of that stretch was Drysdale paired with Johnson? |

I don't understand both of those comments. How does the current center play come into it when passing over a player with 1D potential for a center with 2/3C potential? Luchanko was clearly not ready to play in the NHL. Shouldn't have been on the team in the first place. - MJL
Leave it to the Flyers to not only commit the cardinal sin of drafting for current need, but also throwing one of the youngest kids in the draft into the lineup right away, and on top of that healthy scratching him a bunch of times to boot.
Just exponential levels of stupidity at work. |

In fairness the Flyers goaltending is actually way worse now than back then. |

2018-19 was the year they played eight goalies due to injuries, and only Hart was above average.
Also, Drysdale is struggling defensively, but is struggling even more with creating offense. Which has nothing to do with the goalies.

That's the hang up for me. I don't see the puck moving and offensive IQ in his game. They can coach him to be better defensively. They can't coach into him what he doesn't have.

He looks like he's just playing shinny. No idea where to be, what to do, how to use his teammates. He's just out there doing whatever occurs to him. |

You pointed out that he has been outscored while on the ice. I do think having a team save percentage of .843 is relevant to the discussion. There hasn’t been anything lower than .88 in the 2000’s for the season and one would have to go back to the expansion Ottawa senators in 1992 and 1993 to get something near as horrific at .852. We are witnessing pre butterfly goalie technique level of save percentage.

The scary thing about Drysdale is that he's getting beaten to a pulp in limited, easy minutes. York and Sanheim do the heavy lifting. - Feanor
This is why I love the short sighted analytics crowd:
BUT BUT BUT stats say everything!!!!
@ Vancouver 10/11/24
EVG - Blueger (paired with Zamula) Luchanko didn't pick up man
@ Calgary 10/12/24
EVG - Huberdeau (paired with Zamula) Zamula didn't have man
ENG - Kadri (extra man) Tippett blocked shot from point, cleared and shot in EN
@ Edmonton 10/15/25
EVG - Brown (paired with Sanheim) Failed clear by Hathaway, Sanheim out of position
@Seattle 10/17/24
EVG - Montour (paired with Johnson) Point shot from Montour, Fedotov should of had
EVG - Tolvanen (paired with Sanheim) Rebound, Sanheim and/or Foerster didn't pick up man
EVG - Eberle (paired with Sanheim) Eberle got behind Sanheim for tap in from 2 on 1
EVG - Bjorkstrand (paired with York) Bad pinch by Drysdale, puck sent up for breakaway
vs Vancouver 10/19/24
EVG - Hoglander (paired with Johnson) Johnson covering no one, wide open on his side of ice
vs Washington 10/22/24
EVG - Carlson (paired with Zamula) Puck hits Zamula's skate and redirects into the net
EVG - Chychrun (paired with Seeler) Both defensemen on left side of ice, Seeler hurries to block shot (who's covering what side?)
@Washington 10/23/24
ENG - PLD (paired with Zamula) The famous line change when puck is coming at Zamula
ENG - Ovechkin (extra man) Puck cleared across ice, AO races to open ice, picks up puck backhand in net
vs Minnesota 10/26/24
EVG - Foligno (paired with Seeler) Seeler out of position, races back to make it 3 on 2, TK unable to tie up Foligno
vs Montreal 10/27/24
EVG - Suzuki (paired with Seeler) Drysdale fails to get to rebound, Seeler out of position, tap in from open man
EVG - Evans (paired with Seeler) Drysdale has Evans, slides over to cover Seelers man in front of net, stick breaks from shot goes to Evans
