I dont agree. Coots, Konecny, Tippett, Michkov and Farabee are not 3rd liners. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Michkov and Konecny aren’t but the rest are at least on a contending team. |

I dont agree. Coots, Konecny, Tippett, Michkov and Farabee are not 3rd liners. Brink Frost and Foerster you can say are until their production proves otherwise. Problem is everyone is overreacting to a poor 9 games. There is 73 games left. A lot can change over that time.
You have to remember that the NHL has changed as well. Teams try to have two 2nd lines. Teams also ten to make lines based on how players play together rather than skill level. Matthew Tkachuk for example is a 1st line player, no debate. He's currently used on the 2nd line. One could Argue Nylander is a top line player. Hes often on the 2nd or 3rd line in Toronto. Lines are more about fit than skill these days. - xShoot4WarAmpsx

Yes, that does mean it OK. You are not expected to provide something that isnt standard.
The gold standard nonsense is pure PR BS. Its meaningless. Like I mentioned in another comment all teams\companies have terminology like that. Everyone claims to be the best and that by definition cannot be true. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
beyond laughable. what about being better than others?
defend to the end. what other organizations claimed to be the gold standard? wipe your chin. flyers thank you for your service. |

Pretty simple in my mind - if you claim to be the gold standard wouldn't you go above and beyond for your players acclimation to a new country? Even more so for a kid like MM39. |

1. He was homesick and basically that's all he said.
2. Briere admitted he screwed up as he was learning on the job.
3. The Flyers did not offer to bring his GF over at that time. That was brought up for 2024.
That's it. Are people not allowed to admit they are homesick? Did Briere admit he screwed up with Kolosov because he felt that would be a great look for the Flyers?
Most of the ink spilled on this are people defending the gold standard franchise. This wouldn't have become the huge thing it did if the Flyers hadn't already botched the CG situation and been in full spin mode. The Flyers and their subsidiaries went full media blitz instead of just saying "yea he's homesick and we will address that". It became a "don't ever question us or we will bury you" onslaught kind of like what happened with CG.
It became a big deal because the Flyers overreacted, again. It took you 2 lengthy posts to spend one sentence (the final one) on the actual issue. Talking about everything but the problem.
How much of your 2 posts have to do with "he was homesick and maybe not mature enough to go to another country"? That's all that needed to be said. You sound like comcast talking about everything but the issue. - Flyers_01
1) Kolosov was homesick, so? How is that the Flyers fault? He was there for what 2-3 weeks? There arent many russians if any in the AHL. You cant just make someone not mis home
2) Briere never said he screwed up. He said they could have done more. That is not the same thing. You can always do more. You can go above and beyond for someone and still do more.
The whole point of bringing Kolosov here was to help him get used to being here. They didnt have to bring him over at all last season, they did it for him

so, if other teams don't do it that makes it ok for the flyers not to it?
aren't you supposed to be better than the others? the self proclaimed gold standard. be a trend setter. make your organization one foreign players want to play for.
now go wipe your chin. - hello it's me 2050
The Rangers and Wild definitely hired full-time translators for their Russian players.
Maybe they're the golder standard. |

How many teams have Interpreters? - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Where in my comment did I talk about other teams? How many other teams are owned by Comcast? I was directly responding to your asinine notion that they should just get the players to be full time translators, as well as your dumbing down of the interpreter positions themselves.
How many other teams employ this many Russian/Belarussian athletes? One of which is supposed to be the guy they build around. You know, the guy that the GM and POHO personally picked up from the airport and carried his luggage. Anecdotally, I'm pretty positive that when Panarin and Shesterkin were first on the team, NYR had a translator. Clearly not needed anymore given how long they've been in the states but there's one example for you.
Maybe they can cut out one of the 5 senior advisor positions to create a full time salary for an interpreter. Just spit balling. How many other teams have 5 senior advisors? |

No one needs to argue either Nylander or Tkachuk are top line players because they are. Full stop. |

You didnt. I was asking. I dont think many teams do.
It isnt a huge necessity when you are paying for players to learn the language. An interpreter likely slows the learning process because they can use it as a crutch rather than being forced to try and speak english
It is absolutely some they they can\could do but its not something that theyre a terrible company for not having again. Everyone here is acting more outraged over something that is a luxury rather than something that is ultimately bad.
Gold standard is a dumb PR Stunt nothing more. People need to stop treating it like it means something. Its no different than a burger place claiming to have the best Burger. Everyone claims it. It is all for plublicity\Advertising.
Comcast runs the team that is why we get the silly little videos and comercials. |

It's quite comical at this point. I just got in and saw that there were 140 comments on the new blog and thought something interesting had happened today. But nah, just the same ole whiney $hit! Bill also writes a blog for the Stars. His Flyers blog has 140 comments and his Stars blog has ZERO. Human nature sure can be baffling at times. Eh what?? |

Dude, you are extremely naive about a lot of things. Here is why Jones saying the Flyers are the gold standard is a big problem. The first and most obvious is, they aren't! This franchise, no matter how many different people they bring in, refuses to change. Other than minor on the surface, they still operate the same way. Even though they've been in the poop can for over a decade. Still spewing on about culture and the Flyers way. Just like a drug addict who has to admit they have a problem in order to get better. So do the Flyers. They're not the gold standard in the league. It's not PR, Jones truly believes it. Jones making that statement solidified that he was not the right guy for the job.

When the Flyers tilt the scale to the positive, then there will be more positive comments.

I am an uber positive person by nature. But when it comes to the Flyers the positives are few and far between. Even more pathetic when you realize they constantly are stepping on their own feet - for over a decade plus.

I’m not defending the organization, but if I were in Michkov’s place (or Kolosov’s) and wanted an interpreter I’d tell my agent to make it happen. |

I'm gonna offer some positive news! Zavragin's latest numbers in the KHL remain impressive. After today's win (6-3) his stat line reads 6-0-0 with a .922 save pct. and a goals against of 2.23. You're welcome! |

I spent a year in Donegal, Ireland with relatives after high school. As you know they speak English but the brogue was so thick it was like learning a new language.
It’s not an easy thing being in a country and not understanding the language and how to operate on a daily basis.

Everyone has a different personality also and are able to handle things. Especially when young. I have a close family friend whose grand daughter went over to London for college. She loved it. Took trips around Europe and completely flourished. I have a nephew, who went away to school in West Virginia, couldn't handle it and transferred back home. Just wasn't ready. |

Similar experience!
I was lucky to flourish bc it was all so new and cool to me. It really depends on the person and personality. My older brother was more reserved and it was tough for him.
It was a great experience and one I will always cherish but it is not the same way for everyone. It is tough and if you are introverted it is really tough. Add into culture and everything else it can be really overwhelming.
I don’t blame my brother for not having the experience I did. I wish he did but he was shy and out of his comfort zone.
And this Ireland… can’t imagine a Russian coming over at 19. That is a whole other level
