Reaves had 9 shifts last night, for 5:27 of ice time.

Surely we can dress someone in his place who has more to contribute.

The 4th line, arguably, played it's most noticeable game when Reaves didn't play and McMann suited up with Kampf & Lorentz against Jersey.

That said, this line of Reaves - Kampf - Lorentz has played together in 6 of our games and been generally effective in all of the games except the ones against LA and the Rangers. While the line was -1 in both the LA and Pittsburgh games, they controlled most of the play against the Penguins. Against the Canadiens they dominated all game long. They were very effective against Boston and also last night against the Jets.

There have been a few times we've all seen Reaves dragging behind the play, but he has contributed on the cycle, hit guys deep, and played his part without doing anything too stupid. I'm not saying there aren't better guys, but there aren't better guys at doing what Reaves is doing - which is hitting guys with force on the forecheck and winning cycle battles on the boards - in our organization.

This is sort of the pinnacle of recency bias. He had a great game yesterday - there's no denying it. He even has 9 points in 9 games now, so he is getting his points. Mitch Marner leads the team in points and everyone wants him traded because he makes the occasional mistake.

Tavares, for him getting points - and being realistic about it - is still very slow, poor on defense and requires linemates that are going to pick him up a fair bit in order to allow him to be successful (and this is basically true of anyone who isn't McDavid, but JT will suffer defensively and on the forecheck if there aren't wingers doing more of that lifting for him). Is he worth more than $3m? Yeah, probably. But how much more? How much does a declining scorer fetch when he doesn't bring other value to the table like PK, checking or forechecking?

Trying to be objective about JT I don't think I'd want to give him more than $4.5m, even if he's worth it in the short-term. Nashville gave Stamkos $7m and I doubt they're thrilled with that decision so far.

Well it's been only a few games.

But I'd dare say it was predictable to see Stamkos production plummet since he was mostly getting his point on the powerplay.

Anyone playing with a powerplay monster like Kucherov will get his fair share of points.

Tavares is worth more than 4.5M on the open market, that much is obvious. If he signs for that amount in Toronto, the bedsheets effect is very, very strong.

He’s a cusp NHLer, nothing more. I’m not proud to say this but it’s my opinion.

May I ask why I’m being questioned about this when I simply didn’t believe he’d be sat so McCabe ($4 mill) or OEL ($3.5 mill) could take his spot on the bottom pairing?

He has 9 points and the majority of that time has been playing with Holmberg and Robertson for frick sakes.

He forchecks well. He produces and is poop on for no reason.

30 points in 30 games and most of those being 5v5. People just can't give him credit for some reason.

Oh and he is excellent on the draw.
