i learned about a thing called trunk or treat on corny's podcast™ and then i saw it happening and it seems pretty safe. all the neighborhood drives to a little league field or something like that and they all park their cars in a big circle. then they open their trunks and all the candy is in there. so the parents are with the kids the whole time, the kids get their candy, and nobody has to die.

the only problem i see is people like bingolady trying it on a thursday night in june.

Very cool idea.

Also, do not show up with a white panel van....

I remember going to the west island, where my cousins lived, and there are street full of town house complexes in a U shape... Almost the same concept, parents could keep track of their kids easily in one area.

I would come home with 2 full pillow cases of candy in a few hours of work.

Still put that on my resume.

what's the point though..? kinda takes all the fun out of putting on a costume and going from one decorated house to another to get candy...

it's not the same as going door to door but grown ups have kind of ruined that. hopefully the kids won't miss it too much. doing things like trunk or treat seems good because this is about the kids. it may not be the same as it was for us but they should still get a day where they get to put on a cool costume and see what all their friends costumes are and get some good quality candy.

well i mean they still all get to see each other in their costumes and hang out with each other when they're going from car to car to get their candy. it's kind of just like going to everyone's house but now they're safer. just this way they go from car to car instead of house to house.

I don't get how it's "safer"... parents usually trick or treat with their kids anyway, no?

i think this just ensures that everyone who wants to make sure their kids are safe can be there with them and it kind of means the parents that were just gonna let their kids go alone, like you used to be able to do, can't. also, nobody is gonna poison the candy or put a blade in a snickers bar if they know we're all in this parking lot together, know who each other are, and can't get away with it.

I think that's an urban legend though, I'm not sure if that ever happened.

anyway I find the car thing is a bit much, to each his own I guess.
