It's nights like tonight I wish I lived in Toronto, I'd so follow your guidance and be going to the game for super cheap. Only difference for me is the pre-game meal location - I'd want to be closer to the rink. I know a couple hidden gems downtown that aren't 'Keg' fancy but have great eats for great $.

I can't bring myself to buy "fancy" rotisserie chickens, not when a good dry rub, half a lemon and herbs up it's ass, and sit it on a can of beer in the BBQ at 425 slays anything I've ever had and you can buy those mofos for like 8-10 bucks any day of the week.

Tonight is the perfect storm.

Facts:

- the secondary market for Leafs tix has dropped through the floor, post-COVID (note: this effect is much larger for weekday games than Saturday nights). My theory is that there are 50% or less people working downtown on any given day, so the demand just isn't there anymore.

- the Hallowe'en game is always, always, always not full. Too many people have duties around Hallowe'en - having to take kids out, having to hand out candy, or both.

If you don't have any Hallowe'en duties, tonight is the night to nab tickets at 6 pm.

Go to the Keg on York, enjoy their happy hour, and wait like a panther in a tree.

Then strike!

P.S. Some may not agree with me here, but I'd rather be the very front of the upper bowl than the top of the lower bowl.

- Atomic Wedgie

All true. My seats are green row 2 and there's little interest in mid-weeks unless its McDavid or Crosby or maybe Habs/Sens/Bruins.

OK, let's do this:

If you could sit anywhere in the rink, where would you sit?

For me, it's 15 rows right behind the visiting goalie.

This is probably because growing up, my dad used to get us 1-2 pairs of blues at Maple Leaf Gardens.

I love watching the game come at you.

I love seeing the defencemen's passing lanes as they leave the zone.

And watching the power play from that perspective is awesome.

Midlde rink, upper deck. See the whole game

Daaaaamn, you're a season ticket holder?!? What do those run you a year? I've heard for some it can be a real burden to come up with $10K+ unless you're simply loaded, or smart with money bank some of the cash from sales one year to pay for the next.

They let you pay in instalments. Note: that was not always the case.

I split them with friends, because there's no way I could go to 41 regular season games a year - even if I won the lottery.

Now I believe MLSE charges you $2500 just to be able to buy season tickets....this is on top of the cost of the seats

Whole roast chicken is one of my go-to meals; must have made hundreds of them. I do 350 for 1:45 usually. The only that changes is the seasoning.

Probably the best way to do whole chicken is to butterfly it but a simple roast is good enough for me.

I remember in public school, a friend sat right next to the penalty box for a Leafs game.

Went with his dad, and his dad was horrified because the language was so foul, so of course my buddy absolutely loved it.

Gotta go with the nuclear option if you want crispy skin. I also rub olive oil all over it (Zezel's gonna bust a nut if I keep this up )

Same as Wedgie ..they're shared to keep them budget friendly ...and having a business helps with a bit of recovery at tax time.

How do you decide amongst yourselves who gets the big rivalry games?

For me, I always take the home opener off the table (they are my season seats, so frank 'em).

It's then a snake draw: 1,2,3,4,4,3,2,1,1,2,3,4...

I keep track of the order, so every year you move up one in picking order.

And of course the tradition is the first guy to pick has to say, "I'd like to start by thanking (insert bar name) for being such wonderful hosts for this year's draft..."

It's usually pretty easy ...nobody's too fussy ...but we take turns being the first to pick.

Also we've found everyone's favourites are usually different.

The biggest battle tends to be for Saturday nights. Those are everyone's favourites.

Get an 8lb or so chicken, slather the skin with butter, Lawry's Garlic salt and pepper generously added on the skin nicely sticking to the butter.

No looking back brother! Best roast chicken evaaaaa!!!

Friday games are my favourite.

Best crowds, no matter who the opponent is.

My father in law used to share 1/4 for a pair of greens.

I did his draw a couple of times. He had lost interest, so my wife and I would take 5 pairs, my brother in law would take 5 pairs.

The other "partners" were all retired, spent most of their winters in Florida, etc.

Those draws were so easy - the old farts would be taking the worst games, just because it coincided with them coming back to Toronto for doctor's appointments, grand daughter dance recitals, etc.

I'd end up with all the weekend games - my brother in law thought I was either a hypnotist or threatened them all with physical violence.

Ahhhhhh, good times.

Gotta love the guy still asking $171.11 X 2 for tickets to section 311, row 17. That's the last row of the building.

At the end of the day. nothing beats watching a game on the big tv screen. For me anyway. Once you go to one of the games, the shine wears off rather quickly.

Hard to tell who scores on a goalmouth scramble if you're in the rink. Gotta watch the jumbotron to figure it out at the very least
