But isn't that what the McCaskeys do? They did it with all 3 rookie QBs. They do things backwards, as you provided with the evidence in front of us. This goes beyond the GM, you have so many more options if you fire the head coach.

If Poles wasn't allowed to make his own decisions, he should've resigned.

I hear many say this, but isn't this the same show just different characters now, it can't be a coincidence.

Poles is in jepordy of losing his rebuild. I've said many times, there are critical points in a rebuild where you have a decision to make that is like a fork in the road, wrong decision, you're back to a rebuild in 3 years, right decision, you're a perennial playoff team.

Poles to me, chose the wrong fork with keeping Flus, he needed an Offensive HC paired up with his new rookie QB.

He probably took the wrong fork by not trading with Washington and taking Jayden Daniels as well...................

- vabeachbear

Totally agree. Daniels looks better overall this year and I think having a HC, OC and offensive line are a big reason for that. Jury's still out on who has the better career.

Poles can rectify his decision not to move on from Flus this last offseason and will more than likely get another kick at the can hiring an HC.

He needs to give Williams a line, an OC who can call a game, and an offensive minded HC. I know there will be candidates available and possibly one will be Det's OC. Was rumored he was interested last year if our HC spot was available.

Even with an improved roster, Bears have almost no shot winning in the NFC North when the HC is easily the worst in the division.

From The Athletic this am...

How the Blackhawks finished the road trip is another signal that they’ve improved. They not only finished the trip with a winning record, but they also won consecutive games for the first time this season. Consecutive wins don’t seem like a major feat, but it’s again putting it in the perspective of last season when the Blackhawks had won two straight games only three times.

How about one more statistical difference from last season? The Blackhawks won just seven road games last season. They went 7-32-2. With Sunday’s win, they’re already 4-4-1 on the road this season.

And only 1-3 at home this season, hopefully they get that figured out.
Wouldn't mind Soda getting another start or two to get an extended look before sending him to RockCity

Edit: how did Bedard end up with 3 assists when his CF% was brutal?
Were the Ducks just flinging wristers from center ice on goal?

Not real worried about it. This isn't a playoff team and if they're around .500 on the road and a bit better at home, should give the team the point bump we were hoping for this season...or at least anyone with a rational thought was hoping for.

One doesn't really have anything to do with the other. Also, the shots were close to even going into the 3rd, and ANA threw everything at the net in the 3rd.

It's kind of like watching JC coach the Blackhawks. Painful

Yeah they aren't a playoff team at all.
Nice to see improvement (at least for now) on the road.
Good road trip with 6 points.
5 at home and another 5 on the road for the rest of the month. Detroit game should be interesting, always fun to see Kane back in Chicago.

And just two weeks ago everyone was talking about them winning 3 in a row before the Green Bay game.

Still not sure if Caleb is a top 5 QB,or if he is like Cutty, somewhere in the 11-15 range, which isn't bad either.

On another note,Jordan Love is having a sophmore slump,so is Stroud (both as of now).
After a few bad/average games,Darnold rebounded well yesterday despite the 3 TOs.

They did get outplayed for decent swaths. Arvid looked really solid, so that helped a lot. For the second of a back-to-back it was about as good as could be expected for this team.

Bedard's "assist" on Donato's goal was basically that he got a whack at it around the goal before Donato stuffed it in. He made a nice cut to the middle of the ice to set up Phillips goal when they were getting outshot pretty badly, and he teed up Jones for his slapper from the top of the umbrella on a PP.

I feel like most of the teams we have played come out with such high energy early and it is hard to match, last year i can't remember how many games it was over by the time the 1st period ended, down 2 to 3 goals then the brutal long change insured it because we played in our own end all night. Not the case this year so far which is nice to see.

I felt like this game was similar to the Avs game, we imposed our will on the Ducks.

Like the way your thinking, LA. Scheme up ways to get Bedard in dangerous spots. Probably for the first time ever, and he's always played up a yr or two, he's not scoring at will. ........ The kid is going up against structure he's never seen before as the league has had a yr to adjust to him.

I'll say this about the kid and thought this from 1st shift of the preseason. The kid will never be a puck hound but he is demonstrably showing much more engagement on contested pucks, backchecking and keeping his feet moving than last yr. He's covering much more ice north and south than last yr.

IMO he's not as dangerous offensively as last yr but he's a better hockey player. In that context he's figuring it out.

- Mr Ricochet

That's a good point. And I think he's gotten some good chances it just isn't going in for him like it is for Donato or Smith.

There should be a 10 game stretch where he scores 15 goals and it will be really fun to see.

It's nice to see Reichel gaining some steam in the past however many games. That was a really nice move and play to get up the ice and set up Smith. I do see what fatty is talking about how he kind of roves high, i hope over time he gets a little lower and keeps his stick on the ice to prevent those across ice passes that have been ending up in the back of the net.
- BetweenTheDots

For sure. He definitely "looks" productive a lot of the time but the way he is doing it won't translate to long term success and aggravate the heck out of the defense first crowd.

Hopefully as he builds some confidence he can start to polish off some of those little things and do more than bum slaying.

Easy summary of the game.

Soberblom was good.
PowerPlay was good.
Second line was dangerous.
Third Line was under water and struggled.
Phillips/Allan were a bit inconsistent.
We won a game we only partially earned, but it was a good road win to come in on a back to back and steal one.

It'll be interesting to see how all of this unfolds but then again this will be the 3rd time i see the same movie but with different characters.

I thought they delegated all the football stuff to Poles and they're not really interfering with football operations.

Williams is several steps above anyone else they've drafted.

I think Flues can run a defense but man is the offense bad. The line obviously has some issues but the play calling, schemes, everything else is a nightmare. And they are not short on talent.

I am a defense first guy, at the same time it makes so much sense for the fastest guy on your line to be a threat high but not to high in his own zone. Some things LR chose not to do early on were frustrating but he's beginning to integrate a lot of things i was irritated about.

Interesting. I thought this was one they "got away with" as they scored first and then got the PP. ANA really seemed to control the beginning of the game and - to me - decent swaths of the 3rd period.

Scroll down on the link and check out Spellacy's and Lardis' goals. Completely different skill sets, but both would be welcome on the Hawks. Lardis seems to be able to be very accurate on one-timers and his wrister is very strong as well. He's also made it a point to work the middle of the ice and front of the net more this year.

Spellacy just continues to impress. Even if he becomes akin to something like Bickell was, I think that's a win for the team.

A positive is that even with the pressure he is under, no TO's. Most games if you don't turn it over, you will have a decent shot at winning.
