It will be the same here in Canada when Pierre Poilievre wins in a landslide . Unfortunately we have to wait until Oct 25

I sincerely hope he does indeed win in a landslide.

One the best things happening due to Trump winning is the liberal meltdown and liberal pundits asking who are we as a country. That's easy. We're a country of people that want a lower cost of living. Lower taxes and cheaper gas. A country that rejects illegal immigration and the billions of dollars spent on that, including housing illegal immigrants in luxury hotels. We're a country that rejects wokism and pronouns of whatever and identifying as what ever you want to be. We're a country that rejects puberty blockers and genital mutilation of children. A country that rejects men in women's bathrooms and playing in women's sports. A country that rejects all of the failed policies of Biden/Harris that has the economy in the gutter and the world closer to WW3. It's not hard to figure out who we are as a country. It's time for the left and the Democrat party to have some introspect.

And we are country that seeks peace through strength and the end of wars. Well said!

Not quite sure why DB calls up Richards instead to Samu or Oli. The guy is fast so what apparently he is a tweener.

Richards is their best forward option. Samu is not close. Oli is good but slow.

Ollie hasn't shown much when given the chance. Ollie looks to be a tweener as well. Only diff is Ollie is a few years younger. Guess they want to see the other guy as they know what Ollie offers.

Samu hasn't played all that well. Put up some points which is good, majority on the PP. At some point in the year maybe Samu gets a shot.

It would help if the voting process and mechanisms were standardized across states. Taking political sides out of it how is one of the most important events that only occurs every four years isn’t standardized on process, systems and expectations is very strange.
- funmaster18

While I understand the sentiment, it's not supposed to work with Fed Gov't control. Remember, the Fed was created BY the sates, not the other way around, and each state has autonomy over their own elections. That said, could the Fed standardize voting requirements such as citizenship and ID required for voting in Federal elections? Yes, they can. But they can't do much else. It's better that way because it makes it very difficult to unilaterally cheat everywhere, as it should be.

There are many states that have the election counted and announced very quickly once polls close. There are others that seem to have a very difficult time counting ballots. Those places, just coincidentally of course (wink wink) are in highly Democrat controlled cities like Atlanta, Philly, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Maricopa County. This is why magic boxes of ballots keep showing up days or weeks after the election is over in those places. This time, though, they couldn't get away with it again and it wouldn't have mattered because Trump's victory was way over the margin of cheating.

I guess this site is on its way out? I'll miss coming here during games to commiserate and trash talk. It was also always a good place to check out during a lull in the day. Unfortunately Bill's blog had become less interesting and many of the good commenters left over the years do to the anger a bickering, but I did still enjoy it. I thought things would calm down around here after the election and we could get back to having fun, but glancing at the last few pages I guess not. Maybe Bill will have some sort of alternative in the near future? If so, I'll see you guys there.

I would love for Trump to come out and say -- I think the dems are onto something -- lets abolish the filibuster and add 15 justices to the Supreme Court

Bill, I came here after 2 months I think and was saddened to learn this. I am sorry that this leaving is not entirely voluntary but circumstances driven. I have noticed the issues of HB for a couple of years. I believe Ek is going through some personal familial issues from this summer; I am sure that doesn't help.

This seems to be a monster thread, and I don't wan't to repeat what others have probably written, so I will just say a few personal things so you understand this is not a pro forma expression of gratitude.

I did not grow up a Flyers fan or even with hockey around. No high schools in southern Oregon at the time even offered it afaik. I can skate but poorly, and I have never played a competitive game of hockey in my life.

I gave it no attention when I came to Philly. I was too into football, a game I had played intensely in high school. I had a roommate from Germany who was into the Flyers. Eventually, it rubbed off. I barely understood the games I was watching.

It was the manic intensity at the first few games at the Spectrum that drew me in. I first became a fan of the passion (more as an expression of Philadelphia fan spirit), and then the sport. Sadly, the Spectrum closed a couple of years later and I didn't get the full experience.

I bought into the entire blood and guts thing. Sometimes, after coming from the new arena (Was it CoreState/s back then?) I would be so pumped that I could barely sleep and would walk around the city, having coffee in those all night diners so many fow hich were around then. Esp the Midtown Diner and the one on 17th Street (forget name), just a couple of block from Tendler's where your ex used to work.

After HB started, I became aware of it from mentions in the Flyers ng, where people like PelleSchultz, NastyFlyersGirl, Hammerby31, Shrike and many others were regulars. In those early days, I used to lurk here. One time I posted after the Thoreson incident, I did not have a team name yet in my profile, and a poster chewed me out for making fun of the incident. He made me feel I was a deserter or something. *smile* Duly chastened and impressed, I slunk off for weeks.

I remember after Giroux was drafted, watching a stream of him in I think it was the Memorial Cup. Lots of us were here and he made this nifty pass and the board exploded. As I became a better student of the game, this board was a backdrop to my knowledge. I devoured every word of the many knowledgeable fans, and of course, your blogs themselves, brimming with facts and a manifestation of your personal lifelong love, filled in the gaps in the information of the Flyers heritage, both hockey itself and the aura, that I was only vicariously able to experience. When Tomahawk appeared, he made a comment about how far back in the net Potvin used to play in, and I immediately noted him. These nuggets, then dropped casually by so many, like Mr. Buzzcut and others, were what fleshed out my appreciation of the game.

One time, you hadn't posted for a day or two and I asked and Jsaq posted a picture of explanation. If I recall correctly, it was a picture of you with a young girl, adopted from a South American country (Guatemala?). I hope that was not a joke and I am not misremembering, for in the mentions of your family, you have never since provided any references. A few years ago, you did mention a stepson who is either biracial or a person of color (forget), and his regrettable incident with the cops during driving. I hope all your family is well and flourishing.

I mention all this not to show off my memory but to provide evidence that behind the services you provided, you were a real person to me, and intimately involved in my learning, and knowledge of this game. I will miss you, and if we ever do meet, drinks will be on me.

It is unfortunate to see you moving on, but totally understandable why you are. I have read most of your blogs for the past 18 years I’ve been here.
I also appreciate everything you have done to try to keep HB alive, it has a unique format that I enjoy over all other hockey comment sites, but it has been evident for sometime now that things have changed, with you moving on it will only deteriorate more.
Good luck to all your future endeavours.

But I trust Bill’s got his vector set toward success, and therefore good on him.

Best of luck, Bill. cin-cin!

Exactly.

One strange aspect of my stay here has been how many people offered to give my students advice. The thing is, these students hurdle a low acceptance rate, and then make a lot of money from an early age etc. Not everyone, but the vast majority.

And the people who give this advice, in a board this pitiful, usually have nothing going in their own lives.

There was significant Internet chatter about violence brewing, esp in Philly, but thankfully, the outcome of the elections precluded the reason for this (you will understand what I mean).

'The View' co-host slams 'uneducated white women' for Trump's victory
By David Spector

"The View" co-host Sunny Hostin blamed "uneducated white women" for Donald Trump's victory and said she's worried about "internment camps" during a moribund episode of her program Wednesday.

"I'm profoundly disturbed ... we know now that he will have unfettered power," Hostin said.

Hostin, wearing all black, said Trump's historic win makes her worry for her daughter, who now has "less civil rights" than she does.

"I remember my father telling me many, many years ago that I was the first person in his family to enjoy full civil rights and now I have less civil rights than when he told me that."

The former prosecutor went on to say that America's health care system is at risk and that Trump's win makes her worried about "mass deportation and internment camps."

"I think

- login[Trump's victory] had nothing to do with policy, I think this was a referendum on cultural resentment in this country."

Hostin faulted white women and Latino men for Trump's victory, and claimed Vice President Kamala Harris ran a "flawless campaign."

"Black women tried to save this country again, last night
... what we do not have is white women, who voted about 52 percent for Donald Trump — uneducated white women is my understanding. You have Latino men actually, voting more for him," Hostin opined.

the outrage and them losing their stuff is wonderful. Enjoying every minute of it.

Imagine if someone said "uneducated black women"?

You and I had our differences and you (mercifully) banned me for many months but I did want you to know that I respect the time and effort you put in and I understand the circumstances.

You did mention you had no experience acting in such a position and my only mild advice to you is that next time you are in a position like that, take a little time to read the room.

- THE EVIL WITHIN

No condolences necessary. I placed a rather large bet he would win. And while of course I did not vote for him, it is a necessary evil to have him be President elect, for strategic reasons of the future.

the dems had this coming when they did nothing to help the middle class the last 4 years
- 2Real

This is stupid. The inflation that occurred was a world wide phenomenon, largely brought about huge supply chain disruptions. Presidents/heads of state can cause inflation but they have limited ability to quell them - that job is for the central banks, which in all developed countries are designed to be apolitical (though this might end with Trump based on his comments).

Every single government in the west except for Spain (barely hung on) that was in power during Covid fell, conservative or liberal. (Canada will change next year). The Conservatives in England and Germany, the Centrists in France, the coalition government in Italy, all lost badly.

The US had far better growth and success in lowering inflation than anyone else. Unfortunately, it is very difficult historically to hold onto power with inflation as the backdrop and the statistical evidence is overwhelming that any candidate in our election would not have made any difference.

Don't descend into the pitiful discourse that is HB.
