The disapproval rating of Biden apparently was too much to overcome. She was smart in trying to separate herself from him as much as she could, but the negative stench from him was just too much to overcome. - Phillywhiteout
She was in a very difficult position.
Biden, quite apart from his mixed record (pretty good domestically but inflation, terrible internationally) looked weak (a cardinal sin in a fairly dumb electorate) and formulaic. He was unpopular.
But if she distanced herself vigorously by disagreeing with anything, the criticism would be why she went along with it in the first place. If she did not, she was an inheritor of his mantle.

This is stupid. The inflation that occurred was a world wide phenomenon, largely brought about huge supply chain disruptions. Presidents/heads of state can cause inflation but they have limited ability to quell them - that job is for the central banks, which in all developed countries are designed to be apolitical (though this might end with Trump based on his comments).
Every single government in the west except for Spain (barely hung on) that was in power during Covid fell, conservative or liberal. (Canada will change next year). The Conservatives in England and Germany, the Centrists in France, the coalition government in Italy, all lost badly.
The US had far better growth and success in lowering inflation than anyone else. Unfortunately, it is very difficult historically to hold onto power with inflation as the backdrop and the statistical evidence is overwhelming that any candidate in our election would not have made any difference.
Don't descend into the pitiful discourse that is HB.

Bill, I came here after 2 months I think and was saddened to learn this. I am sorry that this leaving is not entirely voluntary but circumstances driven. I have noticed the issues of HB for a couple of years. I believe Ek is going through some personal familial issues from this summer; I am sure that doesn't help.
This seems to be a monster thread, and I don't wan't to repeat what others have probably written, so I will just say a few personal things so you understand this is not a pro forma expression of gratitude.
I did not grow up a Flyers fan or even with hockey around. No high schools in southern Oregon at the time even offered it afaik. I can skate but poorly, and I have never played a competitive game of hockey in my life.
I gave it no attention when I came to Philly. I was too into football, a game I had played intensely in high school. I had a roommate from Germany who was into the Flyers. Eventually, it rubbed off. I barely understood the games I was watching.
It was the manic intensity at the first few games at the Spectrum that drew me in. I first became a fan of the passion (more as an expression of Philadelphia fan spirit), and then the sport. Sadly, the Spectrum closed a couple of years later and I didn't get the full experience.
I bought into the entire blood and guts thing. Sometimes, after coming from the new arena (Was it CoreState/s back then?) I would be so pumped that I could barely sleep and would walk around the city, having coffee in those all night diners so many fow hich were around then. Esp the Midtown Diner and the one on 17th Street (forget name), just a couple of block from Tendler's where your ex used to work.
After HB started, I became aware of it from mentions in the Flyers ng, where people like PelleSchultz, NastyFlyersGirl, Hammerby31, Shrike and many others were regulars. In those early days, I used to lurk here. One time I posted after the Thoreson incident, I did not have a team name yet in my profile, and a poster chewed me out for making fun of the incident. He made me feel I was a deserter or something. *smile* Duly chastened and impressed, I slunk off for weeks.
I remember after Giroux was drafted, watching a stream of him in I think it was the Memorial Cup. Lots of us were here and he made this nifty pass and the board exploded. As I became a better student of the game, this board was a backdrop to my knowledge. I devoured every word of the many knowledgeable fans, and of course, your blogs themselves, brimming with facts and a manifestation of your personal lifelong love, filled in the gaps in the information of the Flyers heritage, both hockey itself and the aura, that I was only vicariously able to experience. When Tomahawk appeared, he made a comment about how far back in the net Potvin used to play in, and I immediately noted him. These nuggets, then dropped casually by so many, like Mr. Buzzcut and others, were what fleshed out my appreciation of the game.
One time, you hadn't posted for a day or two and I asked and Jsaq posted a picture of explanation. If I recall correctly, it was a picture of you with a young girl, adopted from a South American country (Guatemala?). I hope that was not a joke and I am not misremembering, for in the mentions of your family, you have never since provided any references. A few years ago, you did mention a stepson who is either biracial or a person of color (forget), and his regrettable incident with the cops during driving. I hope all your family is well and flourishing.
I mention all this not to show off my memory but to provide evidence that behind the services you provided, you were a real person to me, and intimately involved in my learning, and knowledge of this game. I will miss you, and if we ever do meet, drinks will be on me. - PT21

She never gave specifics on anything. Your answer can’t be Trump is a fascist…Trump is a felon…. Trump is Hitler…on specific questions…..crazy but the margins are what’s going to decide it. Each tribe voting for the most part how they voted 4 years ago. - landros 2
She did. You just weren't paying attention and her persona was certainly unconvincing.
She had only 3 months to formulate a plan under severe stress. But she could have certainly chosen a signature item or two and brandished it more clearly.

I hope he starts by turning Iran into a parking lot. Their tentacles are into most problems the world faces today. Unfortunately, he'll also hand Ukraine over to Russia. Let's hope Putin stops there and doesn't walk into Poland.. - Hextall271

No she did not….to this day no one knows how she would have continued to back Ukraine or Israel or even if she would have…. Was the voter to trust her comments in 2019 or 2024? I think her inability to offer a platform with any specifics doomed her.
I guess “specifics” matter. Thank god.

This is rich. This coming from a guy who trumpets every BS media narrative like Russia hoax, trump fascist, destroy democracy (my favorite considering Harris literally staged a coup)
Every media narrative has been proven false and admitted to ((on page 40 instead of page 1 of course).
Why be angry at Trump or his voters when you are the one who has bought the lie hook line and sinker? Be mad at a media complex who thinks you are either too lazy or too stupid to think for yourself and would rather just be spoonfed a narrative that is easily disproven if you would just open your eyes.
Just because Joy Reid tells you he is a "textbook" fascist (what texbook is SHE reading?) doesn't make it so. She flat out makes poop up because she knows you wont go to the source. She and her ilk IS your source. The perfect misinformed and uninformed TOOL. - MBFlyerfan
How did she stage a coup? A coup, by definition, is illegal. There was nothing illegal in what happened, though it was certainly illegal. It even has precedent: Johnson in 1968ish
You do realize btw that there is a world outside FoxNews and View and MSNBC and so on, right? Can you name me just one instance of a election in a western government in the past 50 years when the No 2 (Veep Mike Pence in this case) said he could not in good conscience vote for the reelection of his No. 1? Where over half the former cabinet echoed this perspective? Where essentially all the decorated Army folks in the administration said the same?
Do you think their views were informed by the View?

Personal responsibilities and a business that I run. I'm not set up for it anyway. You need to already have a job in Canada and a sponsor. Along with several other necessities (including a stash of cash). One of my friends is outta here. Already has a job in Toronto and planning to move there over the coming months. If I could make it happen, I would, but that's simply not possible at this time. - Phillywhiteout
I moved a large chunk of my savings out. Having said that, there is a huge amount of money to be made during the Trump years (because of very predictable market movements) and I intend to get my share. My human self stays in Philly.

MSNBC's Scarborough blames misogynistic Latinos, black men for Harris loss
By Josh Christenson
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough lashed out at the "misogyny" of Latinos who went for former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election by historic margins.
"There's misogyny. But it's not just misogyny from white men — it's misogyny from Hispanic men; it's misogyny from black men," Scarborough said on his program Wednesday morning.
"Might be race issues with Hispanics who don't want a black woman as president of the United States," he claimed.
"The Democratic Party that I've always found when you're sitting around talking, they love to just sort of balkanize everybody into these separate groups and say, 'Oh, white people don't like women and black people,'" the "Morning Joe" host opined.
"Some of the most misogynist things I've heard going on this get-out-the-vote tour came from black men, I mean misogynist things," agreed MSNBC's Rev. Al Sharpton. "So you're absolutely right. It's not simplistic, and we've got to have real honest conversations about it." - login
Hispanics voted the way they did because of inflation and inflation alone. They tend to have large in-house families and single breadwinners. I spent a fair bit of time volunteering in Phila and Norristown in those areas.
I don't understand why there is such a hoopla. The Hispanics voted by a greater margin for Bush in 2004. For the same reason (economics). |

The virus was released on purpose from a Chinese lab. That is a fact, not opinion. What is worse is Fauci and his minions were behind the Chinese labs funding. The virus was released with perfect timing to the upcoming US election in 2020, not a coincidence!
Biden received more than 81 million votes, the most votes ever cast for a candidate in a U.S. presidential election. There is no way this happened legally. Even in this election, Trump got 71M votes. When states like Michigan, Georgia and Pennsylvania stop counting votes, pull out cases of mail in ballots that just happen to all be for Biden and then resume counting with Biden way in the lead, something is seriously wrong! Luckily, this election was such a political landslide there is no way it can be stolen. - jd250
