[quote=bhawks2241]Hall is middle 6. Injuries and age are undefeated. - Ztra[/quot
I will check back with you in another month or two. I think you will appreciate Hall more.
IMHO the forwards rank as D!ckinson, Bedard, Hall.
Next tier Donato, TT, Foligno, Bertuzzi.
Then Reichel, Kurashev, Mikheyev, Maroon, Smith, Anderson
I love Hall but he is coming of an ACL, previous history of knee injuries and surgeries, and he is in his 30s now. He just doesn't have the same jump anymore. Injuries and father time are undefeated. Would love 30g Hall to appear so Bedard has someone on his wing.

Bedard is maturing, including defensively, and that's what we're seeing.... His shot percentage is 5.8 this yr and a full 5 points higher last at 10.7%. That will adjusthe a.
Last yr he scored 22 goals and had a 74 pt pace. This yr he's on a 67 pt pace, not far of from last yr, but all his fancies are better. .... He's maturing and seemingly wants to be a better hockey player, not just a pts machine and is learning it takes more to win than just score pts. - Mr Ricochet
Oh yea i like it because they aren't playing in the dzone all game, and when you look at nhledge that times possession of the puck in all 3 zones, Bedard at even strength last year is at 38.3% below 50% in the league, in the dzone 42.9%. This year he's at 42.1% which is above league average in the ozone at even strength and 40.1% in the dzone, i think all these actual hockey players have helped this team over all. |

It's maddening isn't it Dots? We get better more detailed answers from the rookie QB. - HawkintheD
Yes it is.
Like i said earlier the Bears think it's better to hire an executive instead of a football coach. |

According to nhledge Hall's top skating speed is 22.46 that puts him 84th percentile in the league and 31 20mph clocked speed bursts , puts him in the 87th percentile in the league. League average is 18.
So i still think it's more his hands than anything else, but I'll admit his hands have looked better in the last couple of games |

Regarding Bedard: puck just isn't going in. He'll go on a heater and dump in 15 in 10 games and all of a sudden he'll have close to 30 goals and we won't know how he got there.
Jonathan Toews hilariously didn't start scoring until December and all of a sudden he'd have 35.
His high danger chances for are up. His high danger chances against and shot differentials in general are significantly improved. In terms of being a more complete player he's improved and that's clear with the eye test as well as on paper. - fattybeef
Right on, fatty. ...... And Bedard showed in the 1st period of the 1st preseason game he is going to focus, to an extent, on all 3 zones. And in that context he's developing into a more complete player as you said and pointed out his fancies are much much improved indicating imrovement/development is happening.

This is all rich coming from the guy posting hot takes on 19 yo’s and like he’s the smartest guy in the room.
Forgive me for having a hard time believing the bolded as you seem more a fan of your opinion.
If memory serves you were so against the Arty pick that you were trying to suggest he wasn’t the age he claimed to be. - HawkintheD

Chunk, what do you think the organIzations expectations were as the signed guys in the offseason and I guess what were yours? I bet the Hawks said at camp you never know but realistically they didn't want Bedard and the young Dmen to get slaughtered 7 out 10 games. ..... Last yr was dangerous to development and I think they realized that. So they acquire legit NHL players.
And instead of tapping away I'd add just two examples of how they are a proper NHL team. ....... Bedard was killed in the fancies last yr and the last I checked this yr he's at a 50% xGF. Kid was minus 100 last yr(?) and his fancies showed that and this yr he's at 50%GF which is a huge jump.
They have been within 1 goal at least in 17ish outa 19ish games in the 3rd period. That is a competitive team and conducive to development as Bedard's fancies show.
You never know but IMO the Hawks are pleased 20 games in organIzationally and I know I am no matter wins and losses which will in the end show a solid out talented (scoring goals) squad. Whatever that ends up being if club plays as they have the first 20 and development of the young players continues it will have been a successful step forward in the rebuild which is not in yr 2 from a total tear down. - Mr Ricochet
Considering the players signed, my expectation was much more structure in their own end and more sustained pressure (and thus production) on offense. Thus far, I think the defense portion is notably improved. I think they are horribly underperforming on offense. That's not just Bedard's low conversion rate. I thought the D-men would have more production. To a degree they have, but I kind of expected more.
I thought with a healthy Hall, TT and Bertuzzi, combined with Kurashev even being 3/4 of what he was last year the scoring totals would be middle of the pack. almost half of their forwards last year didn't belong inthe NHL. I get why they got Mikheyev, but thought he was superfluous considering the roster was mostly 3-4 line players. You didn't need another. They basically got another Donato. With the guys they brought in and had coming back, it amazes me that Kurashev is able to sneak himself into the top 6.
I'll call it now (not that it's much of a stretch), Reichel will be part of a trade this year. He's sort of getting it, but he just doesn't see the game well enough for the coaches and FO to really get excited about him (i.e. I don't think he brings anything that one of the prospects coming up doesn't or can't).

Go to nhl trade rumors. Ek doesn't seem to care about this site. He's probably not a great leader either. Everytime i see his lives I see a weirdo who doesn't gel well with others and comes off very off-putting. The hockey version of mlb trade rumors seems to be a good place. |

Interestingly Boudreau mentions
that LR won't be around when the Hawks become good. Midway (2:32ish) during the segment:
LR is a heck of a coach and handles his players well. I don't see LR going anywhere. If anything, he's going to see this through for the Hawks to get into the playoffs and win another cup. He's a players coach with a fire in his stomach to get things going. There aren't any other coaches out there that I'd see could be good enough to replace him. If it weren't for bowman we would still have quennville. I could see LR being the next quennville for us.

IMO only disappointment from the FA signings is Makeyev, I thought he would produce more offernse. Brodie isn't a disappointment, he just isn't very good. Better in the last 2 games because LR is now deploying him like a $800,000 6th/7th defenseman

Hockey trivia time, I hope someone knows the answer. The other day, the Leafs scored on five consecutive power plays. A friend of mine asked if I could find the answer, and thus far, I have had no luck. I found that an old Leafs team went 51 power plays without a goal, and the 2000 Caps killed 53 straight penalties. But it is elusive as to a definitive answer on which team scored on the most consecutive power plays. I saw on another board someone said the Bolts did 6 in a row, but there was no way to confirm this. Anybody here know the answer? |

I really don't think so, he's exactly what they want in a guy who can fly up and down the ice, he's clocked going over 20mph 41 times that puts him in the 95 percentile. |

I remember the mic caught Kane screaming "WTF are you doing?!?!?" - Chunk
I remember agreeing with Kane ... dude just left the o-zone on a powerplay when the Hawks had had control ... one of my favourite Kane highlights.

Am pretty sure 95 was part of a trade, the only FA that was a part of that trade was rights to Lafferty who elected to sign with Buffalo instead. I think 95's contract runs through next season and then is done. That is ... iirc. |

That's all well and good until you look at pretty much every single other stat surrounding him. He's far under water in Corsi, shots, HD chance percentage, etc. He's luckily plus 1 in GF/GA. Its' nice that he seems more engaged and is happier, but I just think there are so many other guys in the system that can and will bring what he does. I just don't think he's a guy that you keep around because you think he might turn into something.
I'm not comparing skill sets, but Bedard with pretty much anyone else is a much improved player over the entire ice sheet. With Reichel, he's a nightmare, and that follows Reichel pretty much any line. It's great that he's finding some success offensively, but unless he finds a way to stop bleeding chances against, he's not long for this team (IMO). |

Mikheyev won't hurt you, but he won't really help. Again, I think he's Donato all over again, but with a higher price tag. It's fine. They will need to make sure they replace these guys with better versions. They need like three of these guys on the team, not 6-8 of them. |

For those of you that like trade proposals, How about Reichel for Frost? Heck, even Kurashev for Frost.
Outside of this year, Frost has good metrics and has produced when put with skilled players. He's a good middle 6 center who can put up points, and seems to not be liked by Torts for some reason. |

So with Phillips going back to Rockford and AA expected to be waived, that opens up two roster spots, one for Martinez and one for who knows. Either a trade or someone is coming up from Rockford. - Angotti
Wonder if they might just stay with 13 forwards for now if they are OK with what they have. ROC can bump someone down to Indy for a while, maybe Marcel so he can get some PT.

Well that won't fit someone's observation based narrative......
I would say to get off that many individual scoring chances, on a team that lacks any legitimate scoring threats or playmakers outside of Bedard (hopefully TT gets going), being second in the league is damn near elite.
A 19 year old being able to get those scoring chances while being the focal point of every opponent, with D zone coverages shaded over to him. - bhawks2241
I was at the game last night, thought TT looked good, had a break away, and he really contributes defensively.
Not sure how engaged MIN was the 1st 2 periods, but the Hawks limited chances until the went into the ‘prevent’ defense in the 3rd. |
