The Notre Dame recruiting budget for football alone is about double the entire hockey budget. - rpeters01
Yep! And ND is having a hard time attracting the top top end college football talent. Those boys are going to the SEC mostly. Sure ND could offer as much or more money to them... but who has a history of sending tons of guys to the NFL in early rounds? ND or Bama, Georgia, Texas, LSU, etc. |

You know what I'm saying, BM. There are enough appreciative posters who will step up but it really helps to have someone to nudge it and add fresh content, which you, and others, already do.
Folks like to make fun of this blog's posters sometimes, BOD for example, but there are some sharp hockey minds here too that benefits any reader/fan and we're all better for it....... Be a shame to somehow lose that. - Mr Ricochet
Guilty! It's not like the acronym is completely unfounded. You're right, there are some sharp people here. BOD stands for Board of Doom not Board of Dumb, and it's representative of all the fans who couldn't enjoy the ride in the Golden Era 2009-2016.
It's a shot at all those who seemed more content constantly complaining about the team and anything related to it, than actually enjoying what was easily the best era in Hawk history.
Since were past that era the acronym still exists as you may have some of the same posters, some different but it's not like the outlook has gotten any rosier. |

I’m guilty too. After winning each of the cups, posters were actually complaining. The the Hawks didn’t have a number two center. That the team was sub 50% at the face off dot. They didn’t hit enough. The team was too small. The team had a poor power play. The team didn’t have fighters. And lots of other complaints. And today with a lineup all of us know isn’t much more than an average team, with lots of young players on the roster and on the way, we have players being deemed as busts before they’re 20. We have a coach deemed as useless before he has a real team. The moniker BOD was, and is, well earned |

Fatty brings up Reichel's fancies, his poor xGF amongst other things and that he's all over the ice and not positionally sound. All true, at least to an extent.
But, he's 22 and the most dynamic explosive player they have. If he were 26 they'd be on him to "stay" in his lane but he's not. He's a kid who was lost a month ago and found his game by seeing the puck, chasing it down and skate the damn thing and it creates danger......... Hawks don't have much danger on this roster and at 22 they'll live with Reichel's poor fancies in exchange for his explosive element. He's dangerous a couple times every game and that is becoming consistent.
If it was all about fancies they'd still have Foligno with Bedard where the xGF was 54%. - Mr Ricochet
"found his game" is relative.
If he can't defend and isn't in the right spot to make a play or be where his teammates expect him to be it's a problem. It doesn't matter how good you are you still have to adhere to some kind of structure most of the time. |

He must be otherwise LR would NOT be playing him. He'd be getting the Kurashev, Brodie, Phillips treatment
Besides several times vs the Wings i saw him down low covering the front of the net because the dmen were behind the net |

Oh, I'm not mentioning BOD as a knock and know you guys like to have fun with it. Sure, some folks are the worrying kind and as we all know fan was derived from the word fanatic. ....... You guys are fanning the way you enjoy and the worrying kind are fanning the way they like to. No right no wrong.
My point though is if this joint, and posters in the Hawk's blog, are somehow gone we all lose. I'd expect it all works out but nothing wrong with helping make sure it does in the mean time.

For sure but I think most Hawk fans would say from where Riechel was all last yr and this yrs preseason that Reichel has found a game where his speed is being utilized. He's not a blue chipper and is still 22 yrs old.
What do you think about Reichel's game in that context, fatty?

They didn't have a no 2 center but Patrick Kane was also the best American born player ever who would play with just about anyone and produce.

I don't think there is an excuse to be that underwater unless you are very old or very. bad. He is an excellent skater and has a lot of technical skill but at that level you have to do the little things right.
Theyre a bad team still so you're going to see some negatives but he's an outlier and not in a good way. It's fairly consistent across games.
Patrick Kane was usually underwater but would still end up being a positive goals for player. The kid isn't Patrick Kane. Patrick Sharp would shoot the zone and cheat but when he had to lock it down - he did and was excellent defensively.
These are fundamentals he should have had sorted out at Rockford - which again brings me to question the value of having some of these younger guys that can probably handle the NHL there instead.

Reichel obviously has a ways to go, one of his bad attributes is losing the puck at the blue line, never a good thing. He does seem more engaged in board battles lately and actually winning some. The eye test says he’s trending in the right direction. He’ll never be a Patrick Kane, but not many are. Can he end up as a Patrick Sharp, maybe, unfortunately I did not see Sharp play in his early twenties, and if I did, I don’t remember. |

I can see why Arty is in the A, they gotta coach that 1st step forward out of him when the opponent has the puck. |

There were a few scouts at draft time that said he had to unlearn a few things. That may be the biggest of them

It’s very early in the season, but it hasn’t been a great start for Kevin Korchinski in the AHL. He has three points (1G, 2A) in eight games, and has zero in his last four. Even more troubling is the fact that he’s been on the ice for 0 5v5 Goals For and 8 5v5 Goals Against. |

You know i was watching the game last night and the Rockford team looks so much like the Blackhawks team right now. The only player that really stands out is Nazar and in my opinion Korchinski has been the best dman on the ice. Savoie has been noticeable as well. Last night they were kept to the outside most of the night. |

Final score last night was Grand Rapids 4 - Rockford 2.
(Correction below)
GR takes a 2-0 lead early in the 3rd. Goals by Nazar (short handed) and Levshunov tie the game by the middle of the 3rd. GR scores a minute after the tying goal and adds a empty netter. Slaggert with2 assists and Dach with one. Commesso in goal stopped 25 of 28 shots.
Didn't watch the game or see any highlights so I can't comment on the overall play. |

I'd agree with that and was why I made the comment that he looked good with the puck on his blade going forward with Bedard. The rest of it, including underlying numbers, eh, gotta start somewhere to other peopl's point. |

It looks like the Vlasic treatment lately, everyone and everybody, Arty left him out to dry a couple of times.
He is -5 in the last 2 games, so i guess he's had a really bad 2 games, i guess he's a bust, it's funny it's mirroring where Vlasic is right now. I wonder if they have him playing 25 minutes a night? |

2 of those minuses were the guy on the back side not covering his person coming across. And one was the trailing forward not picking up the puck after the initial play was broken up.
At least off the highlights Korch was generating a lot with his shot and making good passes in the offensive end.
Certainly looks competent with the puck on his blade. |

Yea they still lack talent at the ahl level even with a bunch of kids there. One thing is for certain, in transition Nazar is always a threat on the ice, at the ahl level and how he scored his 1st goal in the NHL. He just needs to get better at his half court offense. Which i think will come in time.

They were kept to the outside
Well against the same team twice already
The first game Icehogs outstaked them right out of the rink
Second contest Rockford got a two goal lead and they couldn’t catch up
Not easy usually in the AHL to always beat the same team, but goaltending and mistakes all over the ice can do a team in for a loss
Interestingly sounds like some good coaching kept Rockford outside as their offense was choked |

I've seen maybe 4-5 periods over 3 games. Off the top of my head Del Mastro-Crevier seems to be a constant and Artie-KK. Strand and Fitzgerald seem to play most of the time so I think they are paired.
best thing to do is go to Twitter pages of teams. Often they have the line charts. This one is different from what I remember, BM. https://x.com/goicehogs |

I remember that era
Some of it had to do with JJ as well.
When they would get outhit or not play with enough "grit" he'd call them pretty boy floyds etc..
That is actually one of the reasons I stopped going to 2nd city hockey and the committed indian. There seemed to be a lot of complaining for the sake of being of negative.
I always thought there was less of that negativity here then other places, but maybe that was just me. |
