Leafs have better odds at winning the cup than Ottawa has to make the final.

The only team the leafs have a chance of catching, in points, is the Bruins.

The leafs have no hope in hell of catching the Sens, but it should not be a big difference to them, if they manage to end up third in the Atlantic .......... as a first round match-up vs the Sens pretty much gives them a virtual home ice advantage even if the series starts in Ottawa....... because any leaf game in Ottawa, the CTC is always 50% plus filled with leaf fans.

The leafs right now have the better record, and have two games is hand on the Bruins ....... so for all intensive purposes, third place in the Atlantic is theirs right now, and theirs to keep if they just maintain their current rate of play .570.

I think a Sens/Leafs playoff would be great for hockey. If Montreal wins their series against the Rangers, it sets up a Canadiens vs (Sens/Leaf) conference semi final with a guarantee that a Canadian team goes through to the Conference final. This would be very good for hockey.

I heard on the broadcast last night that Montreal has handled the Rangers pretty easily so far this season.

1.096% chance to win the cup for ottawa
1.274% chance to win the cup for toronto

so what they are saying is neither team has a realistic shot to win the cup. i agree. one team is in a better situation when it comes to improving their team for future success though.

The leafs currently have a virtual lock on third in the division, with only the Bruins and Islanders with a realistic chance of catching them, and bumping them down to a WC spot.

leafs have 6 home and 5 away games left
Islanders have 4 home and 7 away games left
Bruins have 7 home and 2 away games left

just a quick look at each teams opponents, gives me the impression that the Bruins have an "easier" line up of opponents ......... while it looks to me like the leafs have the hardest line up of opponents, of the three teams.

toronto 1.5%

Yes, neither team has a realistic shot at the Cup ........... but as far as your 100% speculation about the future, it's your biased opinion ..... and that's your right to hope for a better tomorrow ....... it's been 50 years of "next year".

But you never know in the NHL, the Kings squeaked in one year, as an eighth seed, and went on to win the Cup ...... so you never know ...... as a matter of fact, this point was brought up on the Radio thins morning, alone with some strong opinions on Colin White, and whether the Senators should bring him in this season.

I think that is right.

Should not discount how much the loss last night did to the Bruins. Phaneuf got into their head and you could see it at the end of the game. This is less about Phaneuf than the Bruins players realizing that they have put themselves in a really bad playoff situation with losses to the Leafs and Sens on back to back nights.

It may just come down to ROWs as a tie breaker between the Bruins and leafs, and that right now favours the Bruins

Listened to the McGuire tape. Thanks it was very good.

I thought his comments on White were interesting. He would bring him up today and said he would help right now. Long term he believes he will be a star player.

But, I thought McGuire's most interesting comment was about Phaneuf and his belief that the Leafs would have never given him up had they realized just how good he can play in a competitive environment.

I thought Phaneuf played an amazing game last night and single handed took all the Bruins players off their game. The Bruins announcer said he favoured McQuaid and Phaneuf being able to go the centre ice and settle it man to man. And, at the same time Borowicki and Methot also pounded anybody coming down the left side. Sens are very luck to have Phaneuf. He is a great 2nd behind Karlsson and major reason for the Sens having such a strong season.

Another Leaf fan grasping the trivial in hopes of finding something that offers meaning to an insecure fan base.

Just relax. The Leafs have had a good season. The only thing that matters is the scoreboard and the Leafs are doing fine. Don't try to make it into more than what it is.

Why can't we talk about the fact that some unbiased observers think that though neither team as a realistic shot at the cup, the leafs actually have a better chance than the sens. why do sens fans not want to talk about this? this is good pre-playoff talk that fans of other teams are open to talking about.

Why would you want to talk about somebody's risk assessment when it is likely the Leafs and Sens will meet in the playoffs?

McGuire says the Sens are many insider's dark horse pick to come out of the East. We can talk about it but it is just opinion. Scoreboard and standings mean a lot. The Sens are one of the best NHL teams (record) in the second half. It is an important fact headed into the final stretch.

the Leafs gave him soft minutes in order to move him. we have years a data on him as a Leaf, they know what he is and if there was a chance to move him you have to do it. You can't build a team properly by paying 2nd pairing D 7 million a year.

It was a shrewd move. And just because the leafs are exceeding all expectations and predictions and are much better a lot faster than anyone thought does not change that.

I know you need to continue to convince yourself the Sens need him.

your worst nightmare is the Leafs making the Playoffs this season and possibly beating the sens or making it farther than them.

Lets hope

Aren't the Islanders in the metro division?

Anyways, another 4 win, one loss run by the Leafs, coupled by another four loss one win run by the offensively challengers Sens, who barely squeaked out that one win against a team that had played the night before... and the Leafs are ahead of the Sens.

Is it likely? No. Is it possible... well, teams with unsustainable numbers like the Sens do have a tendency to drop off when the going gets tough... and this last week kinda shows that.

I think the Sens' recent struggles are even more important. As dopps put it, they appear to be backing into a playoff spot. Let's just hope they don't back up too much. Wouldn't want them to miss the playoffs and miss the chance to be knocked out by the Leafs.

OK, let me explain it for you ............ I guess I gave you too much credit to figure this out.

You foolishly posted (yesterday) that both the Bruins and Senators were "catchable" by the leafs ........... because in your world, you actually see the leafs running the table, and finishing in second in the Atlantic.

The leafs have caught the Bruins ( I explained that already) ...... but the both the Bruins and the Islanders have good chances to catch the leafs (in points) and with the Bruins having a much more favourable schedule than the leafs, and I'm speculating that they eventually pass the leafs, and force them into a WC spot, and possibly battling with the Islanders for that WC spot.

Looks like you said the Islanders could bump the Leafs into a WC spot.

The long outraged post seems to be a defense mechanism of yours. It's OK to admit you don't know how the divisions are aligned. Nobody here expects you to know much about the game.

The Leafs don't need to run the table to catch the Sens, the Sens just need to keep playing the type of game they've played the last 5 outings.

by recent struggles, do you mean the Month of March, where so far they've managed 16 out of a possible 22 points?

by backing into, do you mean their play for the Month of March, when on the 2nd of March the Sens were 2 points up on the Bruins and 4 points up on the leafs ........ and today they're 6 points up on the Bruins and 7 points up on the leafs?

So in your mind, a team (the Senators) in the top third of the NHL, widens the gap (in points) over the last 11 games, in the playoff stretch, over the two teams behind them in the Division .......... basically knocking them completely out of any chance at second place, is the definition of "backing into" a playoff spot???

Please explain how that could possibly make any sense, in the real world?

I mean the last 5 game stretch where they could only (barely) muster a win against a team that played the night before.

I thought that was clear, because I've said it constantly. I guess I gave you too much credit.

It really is hard to figure out how low the bar needs to be set for you.

apparently it's "not struggling".

Gotta wonder how bad that stretch would have been if their preceding 3 games hadn't been against 3 of the bottom-5 teams in the NHL(with one of those going to OT).
