The Oilers overperformed last year, I don't expect they'll be able to repeat their success this year.

Swayman to the KHL?

Russia is a hot mess right now. There isn't enough money in the world to make living/working over there worth it.

I find the idea that an American player of Swayman's stature and contract leverage would go to the KHL to be simply not believable.

Who’s he kidding, he’s not going to the KHL. And what an insult…….I’ll play in Russia for a fraction of what the Bruins offer!! Let him go then!! I’d love to see a team let a player go to the KHL……call his bluff.

Bruins messed up when they traded Ulmark. I have to assume that they must of had some conversation with Swayman reps and had an idea of what the contract was going to look like, and somehow Swaymans reps have now raised the bar. That’s the only way I see Bruins letting themselves get into this position. If I were the Bruins, I’d purchase a one way ticket to Russia for Swayman and his agent.

Trade Swayman for Bob at $7M and '26 1st (top 10 protected)
FLA signs him for 3x $7.5M or trades some salary (Knight for a BU + maybe) and signs Swayman for 7x $8.5M

Even a GM dumb enough to let Ulmark go before signing Swayman knows this KHL threat is a dead hand bluff.

Orrr Korpisalo thrives in Montgomery's air tight defensive system and the stupid one is Swayman and his agent.

I think the KHL comment is about what Swayman could/would do if unsigned by Dec 1st...his only option to stay even reasonably sharp is to play elsewhere (outside of North America) as he can't play this season in the NHL after Dec 1st if unsigned. Anybody think a player is going to sit for over a year without playing any meaningful games?
The reality is, this is just a gamesmanship comment in response to Sweeney's comment about reaching a deal by Dec 1st.

Don’t see him getting to Dec 1 without a contract. But if that happens and he’s left with no other choice but to go play in the K for a season, can totally see one of the big KHL clubs falling over themselves and offering the equivalent of $5M-$6M USD for him to play Dec 2 to end of their season.

Not sure how it works for non-Russian citizens, but Russian athletes keep a much larger percentage of their salary in the KHL than they do in the US.

Radulov turned down $7 Mil USD. Russia taxes athletes at a flat 13% rate. It’s been alleged that Kaprizov made more in the KHL than with the NHL because of off book payments.
