He deserves it. But I don’t see him dragging his team to a Cup by sheer will like MacKinnon did.

That's an interesting perspective, I don't think most Avs fans tend to particularly associate MacK with those playoffs, thinking more so of Makar or Nichushkin or even Landeskog who went 11-11-22 in 20 games playing on one knee. I think Makar will almost certainly be named captain once Landeskog rides into the sunset whether that be sooner or later with an outside chance of Rantanen who is much more of a leader on the team than is generally recognized.
MacKinnon doesn't want anything to do with that role and although he's highly respected by his teammates most of them don't seem to like him very much. He for sure isn't the type who'll bring a room together - at least not in the way Landy does who seems to have an almost preternatural ability to do that. It's uncanny how many new players will make unsolicited comments about how welcoming the room is. You can be pretty sure MacK has almost nothing to do with that.
