... and Laine is now a Hab. There goes any speculation of Dubas going for him... Even though the Glass trade kind of signified it wasn't going to happen, anyway. |

As a pure cap dump too. Dubas should have been all over that.

Habs are a bottom feeder team and I think they’re just looking to dump him at the deadline or next season while retaining cap.
If the Pens weren’t already retaining on Petry and Smith, I think Dubas snags him with the hope of flipping him at the deadline while retaining salary.
Now we wait for the Evander Kane cap dump to the Pens |

He confirmed Laine was not coming here when he did the trade for Glass. Great deal for Montreal, they get rid of an extra defenceman for a potential top line winger and a 2nd...
It drives me nuts that we totally packed it in this year. Dubas didnt even try to help this team get more competitive.
Im going to sit on the sidelines and hope Montreal is going to flip us Laine half retained for more picks. |

He has two more years at Sidney Crosby money. If you’re relatively positive that Laine just isn’t good, that’s a poison pill not worth a second. The Glass trade had more value even if it was just a third |

I don't think Laine isn't good, I think he could thrive in a 3rd line/PP role ala Kessel.
Still has potential in the right lineup.

The Habs got a second plus Laine for a spare bottom pair defenseman. I like taking that since we aren't competing.

Maybe earlier in the off-season he could have swung that, but I think he made too many smaller moves like Glass and Hayes to do that now.
Too bad. Getting Laine plus a second with the ability to flip Laine later sounds like a wonderful move for where the Pens are at. |

And we got a third for taking Glass who makes bottom six money and is expiring. I like ours a hell of a lot better |

I like the glass trade a lot. Beuavillier, Hayes, gryzlick, ahí not so much. I mean at least Hayes got some picks as well, but I’d take laine over those guys. |

Beauvillier was a good signing at a one year min. Don’t see a huge point to Gryzlick and Aho besides more veterany bodies Sullivan can throw out at the expense of some other guys we’d rather see.
I still think you guys are underestimating how bad of a contract Laine is. I think using that cap to take on Glass and Hayes plus the draft capital preserves a lot more flexibility than taking on Laine for a second. Remember we got a second for Hayes as well. I think Dubas did well here if we’re looking at these moves in an “either/or” vacuum |

I can respect that. I disagree because I actually wanted Laine, but if you think he's shot then you got to go with that. |

Yeah I have a pretty low opinion of Laine to begin with and think that he’s a specifically bad fit for Sullivan and would be a disaster here even if he could turn it around somewhere else (which I’m not bullish on). I view it as purely acquiring a bad contract for draft capital. If someone thinks Laine could provide legitimate on ice value approaching his contract then I obviously get why you’d be upset here, but I think we took better cap dumps and dodged a bullet |

I agree with Tojo. Sheltered third pair role but hopefully a stud on the power play. I also imagine he will be fairly motivated and although Pittsburgh is on a downswing it’s a hell of a franchise upgrade over cbus and Winnipeg. Although he was mostly RW with Winnipeg he most mostly LW with cbus, if he played half decent he could earn a shot with Sid. Can’t be any worse than Doc.
I think he is going to do well this year. |

He can absolutely be worse than DOC. DOC was very solid last season. |

Doc is ok but not a top line player. I think him eller and pulj would be an ideal 3rd/4th line.. that can’t check haha. Doc is great on the forecheck and fast, but doesn’t bring a whole lot else. |

And Laine’s a floater that contributes nothing on even strength unless he’s wide open with an unobstructed line to the goal. A forechecking specialist is more useful to Sid than the bad version of James Neal. |

Sid and rust are grinders. Laine can be lazy but they need someone to bury the puck which he can probably do. They don’t need another workhorse who will fumble most of his chances. I think Winnipeg Laine would have been a stud next to these two. Not sure which laine will show up in MTL though.

That’s never been the case though. Sid and Neal were like water and oil, Perron didn’t stick playing like that, and Sid kicked Kessel off his line before they could really try a thing. You can point to out of all of Sid’s long time wingers, only Guentzel has been a purely offensive sniper type forward and he wasn’t a floater at all, he was always in motion and finding soft spots everywhere on the ice. Laine doesn’t hunt his shot like Guentzel. He floats and waits for hit teammates to pass to him. Sid doesn’t work with that, and Malkin is too old to carry someone like that like he used to. |

It's quite comical that Pens fans still think top end players want to play there. Everyone knows that you are hanging on for dear life! Boomer on the NHL Network gave Dubas a D- while Danny got a B+. Have fun treading water behind the Flyguys for the next 10 years. Michkov says hold my beer! |
