Does Toronto want picks for Marner at this point in their cycle? I would think they would want someone on an entry level or cost controlled RFA deal who could play now and free up cap space to be reallocated out of their top 6. They see themselves as Cup contenders, I sort of doubt they're looking to give up Marner for picks. Maybe a pick plus Cooley or Guenther.

Maybe it’s a multi team deal. The picks go to team C, Marner goes to Utah, Team C sends a young cost-controlled player and an established top 2 defenseman.

I tend to doubt they would trade their best scorer and de-facto captain who's signed for the next 4 years at 7.1M plus a 1st for a year of Mitch Marner. Over the past 3 seasons Keller has 98 goals to Marner's 91.

Even if it's a sign and trade why would they trade their best player, a better scorer than Marner, who makes about 5 million less a year than Marner is probably looking to get PLUS a 1st round pick for Marner? What would that achieve for them? Trades have to make sense for both sides. GM's don't wake up in the morning and say, how can I help the Toronto Maple Leafs significantly lower their Top 6 cap allocation while improving their goal scoring and letting Auston Matthews play with his friend. On top of all of that centers are more highly valued than wings.

You folks may need to lower expectations a tad.
