Remember when I said Karlson would make the PP worse? Like the day he was acquired? Hockey isn’t that complex, anyone worth their salt in the game could have seen this coming.

I thought Karlsson would make the PP better, but I also thought they would do more than sub Karlsson with Letang and run the same poop that doesn't work.

Get Geno off that top point and attack down low.

He pulled them and Rak off the top I think. Put Puus out with Tanger and Petterson? Then ran the 2nd unit with Karlson and Malkin up top. I was sauced towards the end, but I think that’s right.

Oh man pens fun is about to begin! Dubas while a leaf would make deals sooner than later a lot of the time. I think you'll see what deals he has up his sleeve last week of February or early March. He didn't seem to like the actual deadline.

We were pretty used to that with Rutherford and even Shero before him. Hextall was the outlier.

If you have a team need, why wait until March? Go out and make the move now. As we found out last year, 1-2 points can mean a hell of a lot.

I just worry there's limited buttons Dubas can press to fix this team.

Congratulations! You're starting to see the imbecilic mind of Kyle Dubas and his love of analytics. I'm glad that you have him and we don't, anymore. Spezza, we miss.

Acciari was actually out there in OT I'm so sick of this coaching staff. If you are named Mike and coach in Pittsburgh you have a lifetime job without any consequences for achieving poop for years.

I watched the Baby Pens last night on the NHL network and they quickly jumped on the Phamtons (philly) and were up 3-0 after the first period only to be caught and tied late in the Third Pd. Then they got a goal from Sam Poulin assisted by Big Z with a minute and a half left in the game to win it Blowing leads must be a trend in the entire Penguin organization Only difference is that the Baby Pens won the game
Jesse P had a pp Goal for the Pens his fourth goal in 10 games Poulin had two goals an instigator penalty a fight and a 10 min misconduct He now has 7 goals in his last 11 games Showing some life and he looked good throughout the game Got a cut in the fight and came back to score the winner

These guys need an eye exam I have never seen so many shots go wide and high
I a so tired of hearing Shot....missed the net Shot.....missed the net And when they do hit the net it is right in the goalies crest. We have target shooters not snipers
Really sad to watch Groundhog Day over and over and over and over and over Will it ever end

If you are okay with paying for all the illegals you are not a solution you are part of the problem

Regardless of my position on the illegals, it doesn't change the fact that Texas has been a third world poophole from day one, still is, and always will be. Immigrants or not. 😂

Not sure what Dubas or his overlords are waiting for; this season is quickly getting away from them. Nicely stated Mr. Obvious! Their current points conversion sits at .544 after playing 45 gms (49 pts / 45*2) and sit 6pts back of a wildcard spot & 7pts back from 3rd in div. Doesn't sound that bad. Achievable task. We'll see. HOWEVER, if the teams occupying the spots ahead of the Pens continue their current points conversion rates , then it's looking like the Pens will need to bump that .544 to a minimum of .600, if not closer to .65. So, what does this mean? With 37gms remaining, the Pens will need 2pts in at least 22, if not >=24 to get into the playoffs with about 95-99pts. Context is rich - it's a TALL ask for this group. The wait & see approach, or trying to find their game approach, or process blah, isn't working. They're simply running out of runway.

(assuming they beat MTL tonight) The 5gms on the schedule after the break will determine their fate. IF they win all 5, their pts conversion will bump to .598 & IF they're able to sustain that, they'd be on track for 97pts. If they flop and only win 1 or 2 then they'll have to win ~21-22 of the remaining 31 in order to get to 95-97pts, which is a win % of .70.

Metro teams are not looking great. The Rangers are running away with it and no one besides maybe the Canes are a sure in. The Flyers lost 5 in a row, the Caps are playing some bad hockey as well. Were it not for the abysmal PP, the Pens would be vying for at least the 2nd spot in the division. Quite maddening how their shortcomings are so obvious to everyone but the people calling the shots.

Dallas not doing the Pens any favors. Were up 4-2 on the Caps with 5 mins left and somehow let the Caps tie it up and send it to OT. Ovie scored on a rocket of a shot too.

Good post. The math is starting to get ugly and this team has shown no ability to play .700 hockey. Considering contracts and lack of "futures", not sure they can do much on the player side of things. Making coaching changes is overdue, but either Dubas is afraid to do that or he's not allowed to do it.

It's just so strange because it feels like there's value in most of the teams contracts

Sid is earning his 8.7, Letang is good at 6.1, Malkin is ok at 6.1, Rust, Rackell, Smith, you could do a lot worse than 5 million each. Petts at 4, Jarry has played great for 5.5

Karlsson at 10 is expensive but I feel it is cancelled out by the fact we moved the bad contracts (The Petry and Granlund deals) for him. He's maybe overpaid by 3 million but 16 for Letang AND Karlsson is what most good teams have invested in 2 Top D men

The Ryan Graves for 5 Million can't be the reason for the teams imbalance. It all comes down to the lack of a pipeline from WBS. I remember when it felt this way before Sully was hired then he brought Rust, Sheary, Murray and a bunch of others with his and it created a 3rd and 4th line spark out of nowhere

Maybe just load up the roster with youth and roll with it

Meth isn’t big in Philly. Not huge in pa either but bigger in the rural areas.
