Great read Sean. Don’t think anyone is giving you any picks for Cici, probably going to have to send a pick to get rid of him.
Agree on the Flames, they are going to be a lottery team this year. Fingers crossed.
Lindholm will test the market and wouldn’t be suprised to see NJ make a bid for him. His best buddy ,Markstrom is already there. |

I think that the loss of Mangiapane's limited number of points, especially versus his large cap hit and expectations, will let the Flames retool (or rebuild, if you must say it) a lot faster.
That deal won't be the one that leaves them as a lottery team for the next 3 - 5 years.
I wish him nothing but the best luck in Washington. But it wasn't working here so it's not a huge loss. |

When I say picks I’m talking about a 6th, 7th or heck even a future considerations. I see a team like Utah as a fit in that they don’t really have any defensemen signed and simply need need to be at a cap floor. |

I don't see how a Flames rebuild is anything less than at least a 3 year endeavor. Aging roster with some talented prospects but no slam dunk option at forward, defense, or goaltending is currently there. Wolf has tons of potential but remains untested as are guys like Pelletier, and Zary. Some of these players will hit and some won't. Don't expect any shortcuts coming to save the day. |

I kind of agree with MAB, almost addition by subtraction with moving Mangiapane. They get a second out of the deal, and a ton of cap space. Should be easy to replace his production in FA if they want to re-tool, or they can weaponize the space and take on someone that another team is trying to move before FA so that they can go big game hunting, and get more picks. |

So how do you sign Bouchard and have Nurse, McDavid and Draisaitl all on the same roster? |

True story and is a testament to how poorly that organization operates. They had pretty much all the pieces in place to build around to get back to the PO's for the year the new Arena is open...but it looks like that's messed up too. Now Mango-Pie Tanev Lindholm Markstrom Zadorov and a few others are gone they could be a lottery club for awhile. And now there is talk of Kadri being shopped back to TO?? lol
Huberdeau should be shopped to MTL for what ever they can get for that insane contract. He's not built to play Hockey in the western conference.
and well done Sean thank you!!!

You end up like the Leafs lol with 4 players taking half your payroll. |

As the cap continues to grow, rather easily. |

'easy' lol even if the cap goes up Edm will have 4 players taking close to (or more) than half the payroll. The Leafs at one time were the only club in the league with 9 players making less than 1 million. Didn't work out all that great for them. |

It depends far more on the cap % than the cap itself. The Avalanche have MacKinnon, Makar, Toews, and Rantanen at 43.2% of their cap space this season. The Canucks have Petterrson, Miller, Hughes, and Hronek at a combined 39.4% of the cap. The Nurse contact remains not good by any stretch but as the cap grows these contracts all become more manageable. You can absolutely sign McDavid, Draisaitl, and Bouchard long term and have ample space for the team around them. |

Oh...they can do it all I'm saying is that even if the cap goes to 92 mil (projected by 2026) it will be a struggle in EDM with 4 players making North of 45 mil. Even if Drai and Bouchard took 'discounts' you still have Nurse at 9.2 which is just crazy. The 'space' for the team around those four guys becomes quite minimal over time. And you are left with your bottom 9 guys as AHL scraps or making less than 1 mil per. it's an issue as we've seen in Leaf land. And EDM is heading that way. I would try to move Nurse and just take a few bad contracts back to maybe 'create' some space but I just don't see how that contract can be moved... |
