Not a moment too soon.

Thanks Mike.

I don't see how Robertson fits into the top six. He is not very good at puck battles and if there is an element the Leafs could use help on, it's a power forward type that will feed the scorers. Knies is coming along, Robertson is undersized and plays a very soft game.

I agree with that - don’t see him as a top 6 player either. 3rd line and maybe PP2 cause of his shot.

Agreed there. I think Robertson likely is traded. He wants a better chance to play and really he's not been healthy/consistent enough to hold a top six when he had chances. I think its a fresh start and trade which will benefit player and team.

No he can’t. Keefe sat him even when he was scoring because of how bad he was on assignments. To me that says they were working with him but he wasn’t getting it.

Maybe a different coach can help him? Who knows though? He should’ve made more strides

Agreed. Adding 20 minutes plus each game (for 50-60 games) of Chris Tanev should help. Taking away Mr. Softie JT Brodie should also help.

Although I looked it up - he’s actually +3 in his NHL career.

I found that so odd I literally laughed out loud.

Robertson is one of those guys that will make a career out of being a top 6 forward on a bottom feeding or rebuilding team.

Crazy week huh?🤦‍♂️

a buddy of mine lost his wife in a freak accident a few weeks ago🙏🏿

kicked in the head by their mule😮

she was a shrew to put it mildly but it’s still a sudden, tragic death 🙏🏿

her funeral was yesterday and afterward I was standing there with the padre watching my friend receiving condolences🙏

i noticed that when he was talking to women he would mostly nod his head and when speaking with the men he would almost exclusively shake his head no🤔

when we got in the Uber on the way to the piss up i asked him why this was. He said that all of the women would ask things like, “wasn’t it a beautiful service?” or “didn’t she look beautiful and peaceful?” So he would nod his head in agreement👍🏿

i told him that i also noticed him shaking his head a lot when he was talking to the men🤔

“Oh”, he said, “they all wanted to know if the mule was for sale.”👊🏿

+/- is borderline useless as a stat. Too much dependency in others play vs just the player specific.

He’s a middle 6 scoring winger on a teams like Utah, SJ, ANA, and a 3rd line player on most teams, and exactly as he was on the Leafs for teams that are legit.

Well he wasn’t on the ice against the opposition’s offensive talent much and that’s one bit of proof lol

Ultimately there are lineups that can withstand having a player or two on different lines that don't excel defensively, providing that the team support allows for it. Again, and I use Kane as a prime example all the time, because he is an exceptional offensive talent, but he is very undersized and also notoriously poor defensively - a guy like Robertson would fit on teams that have lineup balances that allow him to flourish at what he does while supporting what he doesn't. A team like his brother's comes to mind.

It's something we all know - the Leafs simply don't have that support in the top 6 or even top 9 that gives a guy like Robertson room to make mistakes.

I believe in Marner's defensive game more than some, but I also think it has more weaknesses than at least one other - and that style wouldn't work with Robertson. Nylander is not a guy who plays defense, so he with Robertson is just too much of a liability. Domi and Robertson together are a lot of small and a lot of porous defense. Obviously JT isn't much for defense either - so you have to ask how you can roll this guy out on this team where he can be successful?

If you look at Robertson with the Leafs last year, his lines did generate more shots typically when he was present (not with Tavares or Knies, but with Jarnkrok, Gregor, Domi, McMann and Holmberg), but they did not actually have better results in terms of actually scoring - with only Noah Gregor faring better with Robertson.

Given that limited benefit to the lineup when he is playing and the obvious downside to having him actually _in_ the lineup, I think the only logical move is to trade him.
