Boucher.
What do we do with this kid. Is he a permanent AHL'er?

Kid's only 21, too early to write him him off completely. Best to just keep him in Belleville for a couple years and hope he can stay healthy and put some consistency together. I'm not expecting anything really, but maybe he could become a bottom six player at some point if the stars align.

While he'd likely benefit from a change of scenery, doubtful anyone would offer anything for him at this point.

Probably, but with his size and style of play, he can carve out a 4th line role at the very least if he can improve his skating and defensive game. People love truculence.

Let's not forget pugnacity and belligerence.

How could one?! I was a fan for the most part of Dorion and his staff in scouting, it's one of the few bright spots in a lot of sludge, but man...that one was really 9th d chess picking.

It really was one of the longest of long shots. Longer than Brian Lee, or even Lassi Thompson (though I think DJ Smith ruined Lassi) heck Logan Brown is up there too...

So. I'm not one to normally rip on people but the announcement that Christine Simpson is leaving sportsnet or any sort of sideline tv sports reporting is about a decade or 2 overdue. Full on cringiness whenever she did her interviews. I think she thought she was the Barbara Walters of sports reporting. She was right up there for me with the Anti Christ - Rod Black. Just...stop.

Well... the Senators rookies got absolutely shredded by the Devils tonight by a score of 9-1.

Not a good start at all, though it doesn't look like Merilainen played, and it was hard to tell exactly who was in the lineup. On the bright side, Halliday scored the lone goal for the Senators, but it was already 6-0 by that point. You can see Eliasson in some of the highlights just because of his height, but it doesn't look like anyone on the blue line had anything even loosely approximating a good night.

Spent about 20 minutes looking for a box score last night before giving up. What was Yakemchuk's +/-? Heard it was around -6.

Tonight was another loss for the Senators rookies, this time to the Penguins by a more respectable 4-2 margin, including an EN goal.

It was clear from seeing the projected roster there would be a serious lack of forward depth, but even in just these few highlights many of the D-men are chasing the play all over the place, or having trouble managing the puck. These games don't really mean a lot, but it looks like there's no shortage of things for the D-prospects to work on over the course of the coming year.

don't think Ullmark will be a sens after this season, don't Swayman wants 9.5-10M and Ullmark will want the same if Swayman gets it, atleast they are not the NYR were
Shesterkin, Igor wants 12-14M per LOL, NYR would be better off letting him walk if he wants that much.

I recall having read something on that trade over this weekend. Reason why BOS acted so early was that the Sens were one of the few serious buyers, and that BOS didn't want Ullmark to add Ottawa to his NTC after July 1st or some such thing.

Ullmark is not going to have a long list of suitors next year. Very few teams can afford his predicted asking price of $8-10 million a year. Ottawa is one place that could afford him. I know Chicago could afford him .... but is that a "family friendly" city?

I could easily see Ullmark re-signing with Ottawa. As long as he sees more team stability and defensive structure.

Unless Sogaard or that Finn take huge steps, I think he would be pretty comfortable in his perception that he will be the number 1 for several years. Something he didn't have in either Buffalo or Boston. There's only 31 number 1 goalie jobs in the NHL.

Agreed, plus they now have an owner with deep pockets, and Ullmark is by far the biggest player acquisition they've made. He might not break the $7.9M-$8.3M glass ceiling that's been established by the contracts given to the young core, but (assuming he's a good fit with the team) could very well get something right in that ~$8M AAV range with at least 3-4yrs of term. That would create a pathway for Sogaard to develop as an NHL back-up with protected ice time, and enough of a runway to see if Merilainen can push his way into the NHL conversation.
