Switch Nylander and Tavares, and I'm in.

Totally agree with that.

Also, poop's getting real for you in Flo Rida, be safe homie. Might get bad.

I'm northeast of Tampa on what passes for high ground down here. We're outside the flood and surge zones.

The storm is forecasted to stay about 100 miles offshore as it passes by on it's way to landfall in the panhandle. Tallahassee is right in the crosshairs. Lots of nervous bureaucrats and college kids up there though.

We had the first outer band squall line come through about an hour ago. Calm now. The weather is gonna deteriorate overnight though. Hopefully the projected path doesn't change.

I'll be in storm mode until it passes.

They said it's gonna be category 4 at landfall. That's nothing to sneeze at.

I rode out Katrina 50 miles from New Orleans in a 100 year old house. Now that was interesting.

Edit : just checked and it looks like the track shifted a little more to the west. That's good news for the Tampa area. Downtown Tampa is very low and flood prone. So is Davis Island where the rich and Lightning players live.

A friend of mine is in Siesta Key - by Sarasota - he and his wife bought a condo there a couple of years back and so he spends plenty of time down there. He's there right now - they are under an evacuation order, but he's not leaving because it's "just rain" where he is.

Katrina was (frank)ing scary. Terrifying night. The entire house was shuddering on the pier blocks. Wind was howling like a freight train and trees were bending sideways. At the last minute it jogged slightly away from us and we had minimal structural damage. Lost most of the roof on the detached garage and the yard was (frank)ing wrecked. Streets flooded, but the house didn't. Power was out for almost a week.

I watched the whole Karina thing live of tv, it was nucking futs!!!

Being a California resident, earthquakes are the scariest to me over all others. No warning, fast and hard, no Pdiddy baby oil, could be buried before you get out of bed.

I went thru the '93 Northridge quake, epicenter was within 5 miles from my house, lived in a stilt house with the primary bedroom about 50 feet up over a 100 foot steep mountain side. Wood framed house. That (frank)er was shaking like crazy. By the time I got the wife out, who's like a fainting goat when things get crazy, had to go back for the dog and the house was still shaking like a fun house at the Exhibition. Fuuuuuuuuuccccckkkkkk.

Stay safe Galactsie and Monkey hope your boy stays safe too.

Gnite fellas.

Ah yes, the ol' "its just rain" tag line the inevitably ends up in emergency services wasting resources on a rescue.

But seriously, hoping it stays "just rain" for their sake.

Weather is gusty and rainy, but nothing worse than typical summer thunderstorms. That will begin to change in a few hours.

The cats are inside, all errands are done, and we are bunkered down. The wait continues...

(frank) Earthquakes. At least you get a week's warning with a hurricane. I wouldn't live somewhere where the Earth has Tourrette syndrome. lol

Thanks. It looks like it will be - but I don't think it's particularly wise - not that it matters. You can tell your friend that they're being an idiot, but they know.

The more you look at the path of the storm, it doesn't look that bad where he is - but flooding is pretty possible in the keys.

Agreed, barring a last minute change in track, everything south of Tampa looks OK.
