I disagree. They traded Walker because they couldn't re-sign him. Moved Provorov because both sides wanted a change of scenery. - MJL
Correct. It was obvious Provorov was on his way out, and smart people said so months before he was traded. Dumb people refused to accept that then, and still can't accept it now for some reason. |

Def not part of the plan. Flyers are not intentionally bad, they are just bad right now and we all knew it was a possibility. Unfortunately player development is not linear. Guys dont only get better. Sometimes they take steps backwards before they move forward again.
I think still believe this team will be better but if we dont see improvement by end of Novemember then its safe to say this is a bottom 5 team which in itself it probably the best. We need another guy with Michkov's talent level - xShoot4WarAmpsx
They need more than another guy with Michkov's talent level. They potentially need two top pairing defenseman and a 1C at minimum to go along with Michkov

Regulation loss tonight and I will reminiscing the end of the Hitchcock era Torts building quite the resume as Flyers HC- multiple 10 game winless streaks, and possibly starting a season as bad as Hitchcock who stepped down. Now, not fair to put all the blame on the HC. An organizational failure that has been rotting for years is the more likely culprit. This organization can continue to pat themselves a pat on the back for "culture", but as the team circles the drain on their way to another top 7 pick or better- it will be hollow. |

Briere has signed
Cates - 2 years
Konecny - 8 years
Tippett - 8 years
Seeler - 4 years
Hathaway - 2 years Twice
Frost - 2 years
Poehling - 1 year then 2 years
Brink - 2 years
Zamula - 1 year then 2 years
York - 2 years
Ersson - 2 years
Fedotov - 2 years
So he has signed 15 contracts assuming I havent missed any and only 2 are 8 year deals so far - xShoot4WarAmpsx
he has an eye for talent.

An Adam Fox type that could let Sanheim and York shift down, and Risto shift to a buy out would be ideal. But dmen with that potential almost never become available outside the top 10 of the draft.

Is it possible when the Flyers talk about culture, they're referring to the below?
"Disease culture can refer to a medical test that identifies the cause of an infection or to the role of culture in health and disease"

Zeev Buium could have been that Adam Fox type.

I mean if he thought these guys were talent he wouldnt have signed as many short term deals.
Seeler one was too long for sure and shouldnt have had trade protection.

cant sign them all to long term deals. GH with a 4 year deal is laughable.
the ones he gave long term deals he shouldn't have at all.
he is learning on the job and it is pure entertainment to watch. they have zero answers on how to fix this mess. |

Are you saying that he didn't view them as talent, so that's why he signed them to short term deals?

Where was Adam Fox drafted? Or Erik Karlsson? Or Brett Burns? Or Roman Josi? Or Brock Faber? Or 9 of the last 13 Norris winners?
A stud defender is the one skater position a team can draft outside the top 10. Whether the Flyers can it is a different story. |

Expectation is some line up changes for PHI.
They have some banged up players, but depending on health, two players who could come out are Bobby Brink and Morgan Frost.

That's the incorrect way to look at it. The correct way would be to look at all the picks made outside of the top 10 and see what the odds are to get a Norris trophy level defenseman. The look at all the top 10 picks and what the odds are.

If the Flyers put together another horrible showing tonight, heaven help them on Saturday when they are at home again.
The first 2 games showed declining attendance and in both the players were booed off the ice. Hell they had $21 tickets on stubhub yesterday. If there's two things Comcast notices is pissed off paying customers and declining gate revenue.
I bet the people who cheered Torts introduction last week won't be doing so again on Saturday. |

Listen, all they have to do is win a few games, play some competitive hockey the fans will flock like pigs to the trough. It's low hanging fruit

Feel free to run the numbers but the best way to look at where top defenders are being drafted is where they were actually drafted. To say top defenders are seldom drafted outside the top 10 is factually incorrect. |

GH wasnt signed to a 4 year deal. He was signed to a 2 year deal and extend for 2 more years. He also has no trade protection.
Also everyone learns on the job. There is no end to learning. Briere has prior experience. He wasnt just blindly handed the job he worked with Fletcher and Homer before that. |

I do believe the new regime created their marketing slogan "New Era of Orange" and needed a catchphrase to gain credibility. "Culture" was such a perfect word because it a subjective term. Winning creates culture, culture does not create winning, IMO. Winning organizations nuture and develop young players. Bobby Brink is the perfect example of organizational failure. All the HC needs is a small cold streak or stick infractions (which tenure players do the same) and in the name of "culture" Brink to the pressbox to learn. This organization has not won in a long time, a lot easier to focus on "culture" then the inability to formulate a plan that leads to winning. Torts is the perfect front man.

Any player you view as should be traded would not bring any assets back to get the kind of player we need. Hathaway and Poehling are not beinging back a pick that gets you a Michkov type player. Flyers already have all the "support" players. They need a #1 C and a top D. Those guys arent bringing those. Even if we moved some of the skilled guys we have, we are still only getting late picks that at best bring in a younger player of the same caliber.

I didn't say that it was factually incorrect. My point is what would rather put your eggs in? Trying to get a Norris level 1D outside of the top 10 or inside the top 10? You also have a player who has won the award 3 times in the last 13 years.
