The comment that Bill Meltzer made did not even say that the league was trending towards 30 year old coaches. Now back to the status quo. - MJL
So bill didn’t say teams are treading towards coachs 30 years younger then trots
So that's saying coaches in their 30s or early 40s
But im saying just because a trend is happening doesn't mean it's the right 1, considering last 5 coaches who won cups were in min to late 50s

#Flyers have sent 18-year-old Jett Luchanko back to OHL Guelph for the season after a four-game introduction to #NHL.
PHI is thrilled with their pick, he certainly exceeded expectations heading into camp, and they want him to play as many minutes in as many situations possible. |

Perfect opportunity to get Andrae some playing time in the NHL.

The trek to a top 5 pick carries on. Can’t wait to see the new top pair of Sanheim/Risto.
Sanheim’s back is already dreading having to carry the Finnish anchor |

What Paul Maurice 57 year of age and won, that's a far cry from 30 - SlNlSTER
The difference is Maurice was able to change, adapt and grow. Boudreau and Torts can’t or won’t. Maurice has adapted to new players and systems. He develops close relationships with players by offering praise and encouragement and being less critical. Maurice is measured where Torts is fiery and Maurice is more collaborative with his assistants. The age factor is mitigated when you can adapt to the game as it is today. I think Bill’s comment speaks more to the fact that most older coaches can’t pull it off.

I don't care how old the coach is as long as he plays a modern style and system of play. As long as he uses all of the tools and assets available to a coach in the modern day NHL. As long as he is cognizant of how to handle the modern day player. As long as he is capable of adjusting strategy and tactics in game to fit the moment. None of which Tortorella does.

Good. They finally made a rational decision. Now lets see if they put Andrae in the lineup for York, or if the play Johnson, who isn't blocking any of the kids. - MBFlyerfan
Jett hasn't played in a week, so what's changed? Glad he was sent back though.
Agreed on Andrae. If he was good enough to call up for the road trip, put him him in and see what you have. He's not 18 and you can't tell me the current defense has played so well that someone can't sit.

You care to tell us more about the plan with Luchanko? - ClaudeFather

Pretty close to my prediction earlier. Team playing game 9 with Jett playing only 4 games and sending him back with no admission of it being a mistake.

Rumor is, Jones and Briere had enough and double teamed Torts. Torts was screaming “not the face” the entire time. - roenick97
But Torts always gets his way, he really runs the team Im told

It's both funny and sad that that is where our minds go because of this franchise's history.
There's no reason to trot out 36 year old EJ when there's other options in the AHL who would benefit from the playing time. They are rebuilding are they not? |

Every time I listen to a press conference by this team, whether it's Tortorella, Briere, Jones or Hilferty. They make me laugh. Briere is saying sending Luchanko down is best for his development. He gets to be the guy and play big minutes in all situations. That wasn't the case before the season started but it is now?

Why would they say it was a mistake. I think it can be beneficial. He has NHL games under his belt, he know knows what its going to take to play in NHL. Some people understand better by experience than being told they arent ready. I Def believe they should have sent him down earlier though. I dont see the point of sitting him for two games then doing this on the 3rd game unless Briere and Jones made the decision based on Torts not using him
I could see Torts coming around and saying he isnt ready but that doesnt account for not sending him down Tues\Wed

It was a clear cut mistake. He played in the pre season and got a taste of the NHL.

They kept him for a few extra checks so he has some spending money for the season. |

Not automatically mutually exclusive. Can back date IR and it only has to be one week. BUT injury report says minimum of two weeks so that's a best-case scenario. |

I don't honestly see how having 4 games in the nhl for experience is a bad thing.
But i am happy because now I can watch Jett develop by catching a few games |

Glad Jett has been sent back. He’ll now get all the ice time he needs and can play the wjc as well. The correct call.
