Tortorella is the NHL's final current coach born before 1960. It's not just the players who are getting younger and younger. Unless some team hires Quenneville (won't be here, maybe a contender on the brink of a Cup) or Bruce Boudreau (I think he's done with NHL coaching), I think however long Tortorella's head coaching tenure lasts in Philly will be how long we see a head coach age 64 or older behind the bench. The youngest NHL coach at present is a full 30 years younger than Tortorella. That's where the league is moving. |

I think that’s good. I hope the flyers follow suit and go with a younger coach.

I agree but this is the Flyers were talking about. They don't go where the league is moving. They stay in the same old tired spot.

I hear a lot of good things about Jay Leach, Bruins assistant coach. He is considered one of the front runners for the head coach job if as rumored Neely wants to fire Montgomery. But if the Bruins go in a different direction, Leach might be a good candidate to succeed Torts.
BTW, I really liked Tort's presser yesterday, he was very candid and honest. I can at least see why he is changing lines so much, though I still think he should set the lines and let the players play. The other thing I disagreed with is when Torts explained why he is sitting Luchanko, i.e. he wants to play the veterans to get the team out of this current funk. I understand it, but I don't like it. |

Unless he’s an idiot, Briere can’t be happy with the Luchanko situation.
Does our GM actually have any power in this organization or does God Emperor Torts call all the shots? |

Just because the league is trending a certain way doesn't mean its the right way or the only way. I believe Torts still has a lot to offer as a coach and teacher of the game. This team IMO is not ready for something completely different. My hope is eventually they will be. |

I read those lines and was surprised then realized they werent the actual game lines. Would be funny to see Brink go from Scratch to top line immediately |

You listen to too much talk radio or whatever in Boston. You've been saying that Neely wants to fire Montgomery for over a year. You have again been influenced by Tortorella and what he says in a press conference. Tortorella has exhausted his coaching bag of tricks. He's flipping lines so often because he and his staff have no answers and instead of coaching, they just desperately try and find some line combinations that work without having any patience to let chemistry develop. Tortorella is the guy you should be talking about getting fired. Although he is in zero danger of that now.

Yea, well that makes sense. The league and most importantly the most successful teams are trending in a direction but that doesn't make it the right way. Good logic there.

It's ridiculous, play or send him down. Torts reason given makes no sense. He's got certain players he won't play during a losing streak? You put your best lineup in to try to win or, in a rebuilding year, let the young guys play through some adversity. 18 yr old Jett in the press box for a week+ does not help the player and is in fact denying him development opportunities either here or elsewhere.
If you were going to play him after a win, wtf does it matter playing him after a loss? It just sounds like cover for Torts putting in what he thinks as his best lineup with not having to answer questions about Jett being overmatched.
Is he one of your 12 best forwards or did you make a mistake? The more he sits the dumber the situation looks.
This would be Torts chance to show the youngsters how culture wins games, unless it doesn't. It's game 9, not 1st round of the playoffs.
Also, call up Andrae and play him if you need another defenseman. You can't tell me that half the defense as is doesn't deserve to be benched. Find out what you have in the kid. There is no reason to keep trotting out EJ or Zamula.
Torts loves to lean on his vet/culture guys when the chips are down and he's doubling down this week. |
