I wonder if Jarry is a plan B for LA. Just in case NYR decides to keep Shesterkin?

That deal for Alexis is a great deal for NY. If he were on the Leafs it would be more like $11-12 mil, cause that’s the way they roll.

Smart move for NY. Cap is going up and he's young still.
Jarry hasn't played well in many months since last season. His career is marked with wild inconsistencies like many goalies. Blomqvist is playing quite well and PIT defense is weak. If Jarry gets back in and plays well he might regain some trade value.

Why seven years and not eight?

AAV would’ve gone up quite a bit, over $8M most likely.

He’ll be 29 when he hits free agency and not 30.

Even though it’s one year, better numbers will be tossed at you in your 20s rather than 30s.

He is 23 now, he will be thirty during last year of his contract. DOB is 10/11/2011.

The contract starts next season and he turns 24 right around opening night 2025.

The contract ends after 2031-32 season.

October 2032 he turns 31

If he takes only $5m it would be on a two years at most. He's better than that right now and then NYR are really going to need a big contract to keep him. This is a wise decision.
