Not much happening not just with the Wings but with any NHL teams. NHL dragged the season and playoffs on later (because they start later) with almost no time in between that, the draft and the start of UFA season. Won't be anything going on until the prospect tournament and then training camps.

Also doesn't help that Yzerman didn't fix the defense which doesn't make me excited for this season. Then you add the fact that it's unlikely prospects are going to make the team and it drops the excitement level even more for me.

It has seemed like a long quiet summer for whatever reason. It may just be my headspace, but free agent frenzy and all the moves teams were making was just dizzying and of course the brakes are hit. Thanks for dropping in. It’s been a strange summer for so many reasons (personally) and I’m trying to find the groove. You’re definitely not alone in your assessment of the blue line. That’s been a consistent in the comments (or had been after the changes). I am excited to watch the prospect’s tournament and training camp. Just feels like it’s been a lot longer break away than it has been. Slow moving summer.

Wings are pretty much set with the top 6 forwards and even the bottom 6 seems mostly all set. It's possible that a prospect or two could come in and change things but i'm not counting on it.

Defense is a bit different. You have Seider on the top pair with who? Edvinsson might possibly be on the 2nd pair with again who? I just don't like the options for the other two top 4 defensemen. I really don't know how Yzerman can think that going into a season with only Seider (assuming he is signed) as a real top 4 defenseman and expect to get good results. He's hoping Edvinsson can be a top rookie right from the start and that others can play above what they have shown in their NHL careers on average.

Goaltending is another 3 goalie season assuming Husso is healthy which seems like a waste of a roster spot and cap space to have since you have Campbell in the AHL as the 3rd goalie and Cossa that might be able to play some games this season.

Just trade Berggren for Mailloux or Barron.
I don't see Berggren fitting in anywhere in Detroit.
Maybe trade him for Robertson from the Leafs. They are both in a need for a change of scenery.

I really enjoyed the U-18 games of the Hlinka-Gretzky cup. I enjoyed them as much as any Pro game. These kids were getting really physical! The Sweden/Canada game was the most physical game I've ever witnessed for that age group! The Euros are no longer soft!

The only reason I don’t have a problem with the 3 goalie issue is because of what we actually witnessed. Husso is considered somewhat a “question mark” and on his last year. Lyon is sub 1 mil for one more year and now Talbot instead of Reimer.

For the D, I think Edvinsson played well in his extended “stint” last year, but line mates on line 1 and 2 is a big issue. We know Trouba was expected to contribute somewhere in there before that fell apart. For Seider, I don’t know what they have planned for his left side. It’s disappointing and frustrating for several of the commenters. I have more confidence in what we’ve seen in Eddy than in what we have returning in veterans. But, I still want to see the team on the ice however that shakes out. The extended schedule of negotiations has me wondering (hoping) that something else is being worked on but that’s pie in the sky for now.

The JB saga is intriguing. Veleno played all year in Detroit and we saw what he got. I don’t know if Berggren was a part of the “package” for Trouba. It would be nice to get some updates.

The kids are impressive coming up. They train year long with better and better equipment and real time information with all the modeling. We’ve come a long way from pros having summer jobs and kids trying to find spring and summer sports to fill in the gap

JB just gave an interview in Sweden where he seemed positive that a contract would get done. He didn't sound disgruntled. He gets a lot of hate on here, but he's produced everywhere he's been. Fitting with the Wings is another discussion, but in my mind, he's an NHL caliber player and I'd take him over a slow veteran any day.

I absolutely like him over a slower veteran. It feels like he’ll be put in a role that may not be ideal on a “checking” line. But, production can change everything. Someone in the top 6 will be on the shelf and opportunity can knock. Zadina wanted a better opportunity and ended up moving on. I don’t imagine it feels great seeing Raymond’s prospects on potential earning. Want the best for these guys, we’ll see how it pans out for him.

I miss Gerges. I haven’t heard from him in well over a year.

I’m typically over-optimistic, as I see the glass half full on most things. I loved he comment on Veleno. He got a basic deal last year, and played well. He progressed slightly. Ras had done that the year before. I’d love to see JB, SE, and even AJ make those progressive steps. I remember watching Lidstrom come up. He quietly became dominant. There was a time when he wasn’t at the top of everyone’s radar. Let’s hope we have a few diamonds in our mine.

I read all this crap about the wings regressing. I don’t buy it. I see Kane having a great year, continuing to win shootouts and probably an uptick on the PP. I can’t wait to watch him play again.
